Chapter 15: The Advantage Is Mine!

What should I pay attention to when meeting my future parents-in-law for the first time?
Answer: Pay attention to your appearance, your words, and your manners. (Note: Remember to bring an appropriate gift.)
Do everything you can as well as possible. After that, leave the rest to fate.
What if my future parents-in-law are very wealthy?
Answer: If the two of you truly love each other, you might consider becoming a live-in son-in-law. But if you do not, remember to show up on a garishly modified scooter, bleach your hair blond (important point), and drive straight up to him to ask whether it is safe to park your bike outside his house. There is a good chance you will come away with a stretcher. Dog-head.jpg.
Ahem. Just kidding.
Just do what was said above. If things go well, continue developing the relationship. If they do not, you might even walk away with a sum of money. After all, is that not how it always happens in television dramas? Funny.jpg.
All of this was what Chen Fan had found online the night before. One had to admit, the internet knew exactly how to handle meeting the parents.
Chen Fan had also imagined that there might be all kinds of deliberately difficult situations, and had even prepared ways to deal with them.
It was a wealthy family, after all. Chen Fan could completely understand their having a few rules.
What he had not expected was that the Peng family could be so down-to-earth.
Take the Eight Immortals table they used for dinner, for instance. How should he put it? Merely sitting there, the table seemed somehow out of place.
Peng Jiaxin seemed to notice the confusion in his eyes. Leaning close to his ear, she whispered, “This table cost one hundred and thirty-eight thousand.”
At once, Chen Fan felt that everything made perfect sense.
They sat down around the table. Peng Jiaxin should have taken the seat beside Chen Fan, but afraid her father might cause trouble, she went straight to sit beside Peng Guojun instead.
Her father looked at Chen Fan smugly.
Chen Fan smiled helplessly.
Thus, Grandma Peng took the seat beside Chen Fan. The old lady loved eating around a table like this; she found it lively and warm.
Bai Meilan sat down next to Chen Fan, and Zhou Xuejing hurriedly took the seat beside her.
“Auntie, I’ll sit with you.”
“All right.”
Xiao Sihe stared in bewilderment at the harmonious Peng family.
He could not understand why Peng Guojun, the richest man in Su City, was willing to squeeze around such a small, shabby table for dinner.
Normally, Xiao Sihe would rather die than sit at a table like this. But now, gritting his teeth, he took the only remaining seat on a long bench.
Delicacies from land and sea filled the table. Only in front of Chen Fan were there a few simple home-style dishes.
Do not misunderstand. They had been prepared specially for Grandma Peng, whose teeth were no longer very good. They were not intended as a slight against Chen Fan.
But to Xiao Sihe, this was clear proof that Peng Guojun and Chen Fan were at odds.
He let out a derisive laugh.
Chen Fan paid him no attention. Surrounded by his elders, he was extremely nervous.
Fortunately, Grandma Peng took an instant liking to her granddaughter’s husband. Chen Fan also knew how to converse with an elderly person, and soon had her smiling from ear to ear.
His mother-in-law, Bai Meilan, was nothing like the overbearing rich wives in television dramas either. She watched Chen Fan with a smile throughout the meal, occasionally joining in his conversation with the old lady. She even put food into his bowl, silently urging him to eat more.

Chen Fan was flattered.
“Thank you, Auntie.”
“You are still calling me Auntie?”
The more Bai Meilan looked at Chen Fan, the more satisfied she became. He was handsome, tall, polite, and respectful toward his elders.
Chen Fan immediately grew embarrassed. Only after a long while did he finally call out,
“Mom.”
“Yes?”
He was apparently still an innocent young man. Bai Meilan’s smile grew even brighter.
“Ahem!”
Peng Guojun hurriedly coughed twice, making sure everyone remembered he was there.
Boy, do not forget about me.
Xiao Sihe realized that his chance to shine had arrived. He stood and raised his glass.
“Uncle Peng, allow me to offer you a toast.”
With that, he tipped back his head and drained the glass in one gulp.
“Mm.”
The corner of Peng Guojun’s mouth twitched. Who the hell wanted to drink a toast from him? But with Grandma Peng present, he had no choice. He took a shallow sip.
“Dad, who is this guy?”
She had wanted to ask earlier. What was this overdressed man doing here?
Today was the day she had brought Chen Fan home to meet her parents. How dare this complete outsider shamelessly sit down at their dinner table?
And that alone was not enough for him. Now he was showing off his presence. Was he looking for trouble?
“Uh… it is a long story.”
Peng Guojun explained Xiao Sihe’s identity in as few words as possible.
Peng Jiaxin looked at the man with even greater disdain.
Xiao Sihe seemed not to notice. He straightened his collar and struck what he considered his most handsome pose.
“Miss Peng Jiaxin, allow me to introduce myself. I am Xiao Sihe, Director of Foreign Trade at Huayu Company. My company is currently cooperating with your uncle’s Peng Group. It is a pleasure to meet you.”
Fortunately, Grandma Peng was completely focused on her granddaughter’s husband. Otherwise, Peng Guojun would certainly have dragged Xiao Sihe outside and beaten him.
Damn it. First he claimed to be Jiaxin’s friend, and now he had exposed himself?
How dare he say this in front of Grandma Peng?
What did he think was the reason I had tolerated him until now?
Huayu Company, was it?
I will remember you!

The head of Huayu Company was enjoying a cozy evening at home with his wife and children when he suddenly sneezed.
“So what? Why should I get to know you?”
In front of outsiders, Peng Jiaxin had returned to her usual aloof, icy demeanor. Her face instantly turned cold.
Zhou Xuejing sighed. This was the Peng Jiaxin she knew. Then she thought of the way Jiaxin had acted moments earlier.
Perhaps this girl was far more deeply involved than I had imagined.
The smile froze on Xiao Sihe’s face. He had not expected Peng Jiaxin to show him so little courtesy.
But the arrow was already on the string and had to be released. For the sake of his dignity, he could not simply sit back down.
After a long pause, he made up his mind and gazed at Peng Jiaxin with deep sincerity.
“Your original blind date yesterday was actually me!”
Xiao Sihe knew that saying this would make an enemy of Peng Guojun for good. But it did not matter. As long as he could win Peng Jiaxin’s heart, given how much President Peng doted on his daughter, he would not do anything to his future son-in-law even if he disliked him.
What?
You think Peng Jiaxin would not be interested in him?
What a joke. She had been willing to drag a penniless young man she had met only once the day before straight into marriage. Now that she knew her blind date had actually been the far more outstanding Xiao Sihe, would she ever spare Chen Fan another glance?
Peng Jiaxin looked at the man, whose smile had nearly stretched from ear to ear, with undisguised disgust.
She had no idea what he was smiling about.
Thank goodness she had met Chen Fan yesterday. If she had been forced to go on a blind date with this man first thing in the morning, she would have felt sick for the entire day.
“Xiaofan, what were Jiaxin and the others just talking about?”
The lively atmosphere fell silent after Xiao Sihe’s words.
Grandma Peng also sensed that something was wrong and hurriedly asked what had happened.
Chen Fan smiled.
“It is nothing, Grandma. We were just discussing the dinner we will have together when my parents arrive in a couple of days. We were waiting for you to make the arrangements.”
“Really? His parents are coming?”
Grandma Peng’s attention was diverted at once.
Peng Guojun hurriedly wiped the darkness from his face and replaced it with a smile as he chimed in,
“That is right. We have already arranged to meet two days from now.”
With that, he exchanged a glance with the steward standing nearby.
The steward immediately brought several men over. They covered Xiao Sihe’s mouth, muffling whatever nonsense he was trying to broadcast, and forcibly carried him away.
Xiao Sihe struggled violently.
“Let go of me! I have not heard Peng Jiaxin’s answer yet!”
