Chapter Eleven: Earth-Shattering Revelation
“Take the initiative. At the other end, find a suitable place to swiftly transfer the files and finalize the arrangement!” A flicker of admiration crossed Yin Zhen’s eyes.
So young, yet calm in the face of crisis, seeking opportunities to break the deadlock, broad-minded, not swayed by personal emotions, and handling matters with composure—this truly bore the air of a great leader!
No wonder the old man and Jiang Jing’an had praised this young lady to the skies!
The old man’s words echoed in his ears...
“There’s an even more foolproof way to eliminate future troubles!”
“Comrade Jiang Jingzhu, would you mind going on a matchmaking date with me?”
The whimsical proposal stunned everyone into silence for a moment before they finally reacted.
What the Jiang family uncle and aunt were worried about was finding a proper place to settle her safely; nothing could be more suitable than their current military station.
Jiang Jing’an and his sister Jiang Jingnan widened their eyes in unison, glaring over. How dare this guy? Is their little sister someone anyone can just casually ask to marry?
“The military personnel files of military dependents can be transferred directly by the military district, absolutely without obstruction!” After a brief shock, Jiang Jingzhu reacted quickly, instantly analyzing the premise behind Yin Zhen’s proposal.
“Yes, if you apply to be assigned to Qiongzhou on the frontier, your file will be transferred directly there without any third party involved! Perhaps there’s a chance you can continue your research and studies there! The specifics involve confidentiality, so I can’t elaborate!”
Such a talented young man wasting his education and intellect would be a real pity!
“If the opportunity arises, you can go through the internship process. Once your future is stable, you can still obtain your academic certification!” This part requires Jiang to work hard himself later; Yin Zhen can only provide the chance. But from what he knows about Jiang Jingzhu, this will certainly not be an issue.
This is a solution that kills two birds with one stone.
“Da Zhen, Xiao Yin, how can this be acceptable?”
If they weren’t tempted, that would be false. But their usual honest nature made it impossible for them to act against their conscience!
Jiang Baoshan and his wife waved their hands repeatedly. They wanted to properly settle Zhu Zhu. If Yin Zhen could arrange to transfer her file, they would pay any price!
But it was not out of obligation or gratitude that they wanted the child to pay the price with her own future!
The couple had only helped take care of the child when she was young; all expenses were paid by her parents. This was nothing that should make the child feel indebted.
They hadn’t performed such a great deed to have the face to ask the child to sacrifice like this!
“When the troops were deployed, it was common to entrust children to each other or leave them with local farming families. It was a helpless necessity. In times of war and hardship, when more important tasks awaited, everyone hoped for the dawn to come soon and was willing to sacrifice everything. Often, one was forced to make such hard decisions.”
“Da Zhen, you’re a good kid. Aunt understands your feelings, but things just can’t be done this way!”
If she didn’t speak up, Tong Shufen felt she couldn’t hold her ground.
Is Da Zhen a good match? Absolutely!
There’s an old saying: you can tell a person’s character by age three. They had raised him themselves, seeing from a young age that he was a good child. They kept in touch over the years and knew his deeds well.
He had the solid ideological quality nurtured by the army, was a renowned war hero across the military, possessed outstanding military talent, had achievements that resounded like thunder, and was a cadre at a young age. Any one of these would make him a top figure, let alone all combined—brilliant and dazzlingly excellent!
In both character and ability, he surpassed them utterly.
If Zhu Zhu could be entrusted to such a person, with the protection of military dependent status, she would have nothing to worry about! For a mother eager to secure her daughter’s future, this was like a blessing from the heavens, an offer difficult to refuse.
Such temptation tests a mother’s conscience deeply!
But as a woman, she understood better than anyone that marriage was not impulsive heroism. Previously, they hadn’t considered marriage as a solution because, firstly, they couldn’t find a suitable person in a short time. They didn’t know who was trustworthy enough to entrust Zhu Zhu to. Secondly, not everyone would be willing to take on the risks associated with Zhu Zhu.
“Our two families aren’t a good match either!” Jiang Baoshan said anxiously, nodding. Unlike Qi Dafei, their family was ordinary. Yin’s family had developed splendidly over the years. He was confident that Zhu Zhu was not inferior and didn’t think their daughter was unworthy of anyone!
But the families were just not compatible.
Neither of them was the sort to sell their daughter for status. Even if they wanted to solve the problem, they wouldn’t do it at the cost of others’ children’s marriages.
“My old man says we’re all sons of peasants, proletariat—there’s no high or low, noble or base! You’re both from veteran revolutionary families. If anyone doesn’t match, it’s me who can’t match Comrade Jingzhu!”
He still remembered the exact words of the old couple.
“Look at you—besides flying planes, what else do you know? At your age, you’re still single! When I was your age, I had already matched your mother as my revolutionary partner. If it weren’t for the war, you’d be even older by now!
Back then, I joked about giving you to your Uncle Jiang’s family, but their little girl was so promising! She was admitted to the country’s best military engineering university at fifteen, studying a top-tier field. She was destined to be a high-end scientific researcher, a senior intellectual. I was even embarrassed to mention you to your Uncle and Aunt Jiang!”
“A marriage at nearly thirty is notoriously difficult—you don’t deserve Zhu Zhu!”
That disdain was a direct ultimatum: if you don’t marry, don’t come home to bother them!
How was it that the old man, a revolutionary, hadn’t eradicated such old feudal thinking?
Yin Zhen gritted his teeth, having entered military academy at sixteen, which was a bit behind the girl.
Now almost twenty-six, in the eyes of the old couple, he was practically thirty. They counted traditional age generously—she was thirty by their reckoning, three years older!
“Uncle Jiang, Aunt, please don’t be so anxious. I’m not impulsive; I’m serious about this proposal!” He wasn’t that self-sacrificing, but coincidentally, the old man had suggested it before, and now he thought it was a good idea.
“Setting everything else aside, what do you think of me as a person?”
“Of course good!” The couple gave him thumbs up without hesitation.
“That’s your opinion. Our families know each other well and have a good relationship. I personally admire Comrade Jingzhu’s talent and character! Jingzhu, what’s your opinion?”
“I think it’s fine. The man is unmarried, the woman unwed. It’s good for everyone to get to know each other!” Jiang Jingnan caught on to the benefits a bit late. Desperate times call for desperate measures. She was more practical. The little sister would marry eventually, so why not seize a reliable opportunity now?
Good character, high income, appropriate rank, no long-distance separation since he serves in the army, both parents working, good family background, respectable person, responsible soldier, military marriage protected, and if anything goes wrong, he wouldn’t abandon Zhu Zhu!
Counting on her fingers, Jiang Jingnan grabbed her glaring younger brother and immediately gave her consent. He was forbidden to cause trouble!
With those two brothers, Zhu Zhu would never get married! A girl should marry young—don’t ruin my little sister’s good match!
“Dad, Mom, the situation is urgent. Why hesitate? To be honest, our Zhu Zhu has a good temper, looks good, is smart, well-educated, and has outstanding personal qualities! We come from a poor revolutionary farming family, with a solid pedigree. Our whole family works and is no burden!
In every way, Zhu Zhu is well matched with Yin Zhen.
If it weren’t for the time pressure now, if Yin Zhen wanted to marry Zhu Zhu, who knows how long he’d have to wait!”
