Chapter 24 Will You Support Me Too?
Lu Fengzhou steadied her. "Leaving tomorrow morning?"
A waiter passed by, but Song Wan was no longer worried about being recognized. She took off her sunglasses directly. "Exactly, so I especially wanted to see you today."
She glanced into the private room. "But you're here to discuss business. Would my presence be inappropriate?"
Lu Fengzhou turned and opened the door to the private room. "There's nothing inappropriate about it."
Inside, Guan Wei and Liang Xiujin were whispering together. Lu Fengzhou led Song Wan in; there was no need for introductions—her face was her calling card.
Guan Wei straightened up and smiled. "Seems the gossip columns aren't all fabrication. Mr. Lu, you really are fortunate."
Lu Fengzhou said nothing, merely gestured for Song Wan to take a seat.
Liang Xiujin glanced at Song Wan. "So it's Miss Song. Had I known you were coming tonight, I would've brought pen and paper. Many of our employees are your fans."
Song Wan took off her coat and chuckled. "It's all manufactured. There's a lot of hype. You might not like me much in person."
Guan Wei turned to Liang Xiujin. "Seeing Miss Song makes me want to join the entertainment industry too. Why don't you invest in me?"
Liang Xiujin looked her over twice. "You need my help? You speak as if you have no money. What, can't bear to spend your own?"
Guan Wei snorted. "Stingy. I'm offended."
She stood up, playing along. "I'll be off, I'll go find Acheng. No idea how much he can drink—I hope my little stash doesn't knock him out. Alone together, drinking too much easily leads to trouble."
Without looking at the pair, she waved her hand and strode out.
After closing the door behind her, Guan Wei couldn't help but mutter a quiet curse.
Descending the stairs, she spotted Qiao Jiu and Liang Xiucheng in the public area.
Two bottles of red wine sat on the table, with a scattering of beer cans—evidence they'd been drinking plenty.
Guan Wei composed herself and walked over. "You two are getting along well for only meeting this afternoon."
Qiao Jiu was surprised. "What brings you here?"
Guan Wei took a seat beside her. "Saw something unpleasant. Needed some air."
Qiao Jiu curled her lips, guessing what she meant.
They'd never gotten along in the past, always at odds, even exchanging harsh words. Who would have thought, after her fall from grace, Guan Wei would be the only one to step forward and help her.
Qiao Jiu handed Guan Wei a can of beer. "Have a drink, calm your nerves."
…
Song Wan didn't stay long. Her agent called, saying they needed to meet to discuss tomorrow's filming.
She was visibly displeased, turning to Lu Fengzhou with a pout. "We won't see each other for months again."
Lu Fengzhou handed her coat to her, picking up his own suit jacket as well. "Work comes first."
After saying that, he looked at Liang Xiujin. "Mr. Liang, next time I'll host. We'll discuss your proposal in detail then."
Liang Xiujin understood his meaning. "In that case, I'll see Mr. Lu and Miss Song off."
"No need," Lu Fengzhou replied. "Go check on Miss Guan, see if she's really upset with you."
Liang Xiujin smiled. "Alright, then."
Lu Fengzhou and Song Wan left the private room and headed downstairs.
A car was already parked outside the bar. Lu Fengzhou handed Song Wan her coat. "Safe travels tomorrow."
The smile vanished from her face instantly. "You're not coming with me?"
He nodded. "I've still got something to do."
She pouted. "I thought you'd see me off."
Lu Fengzhou smiled. "My driver will take you. It's the same."
She looked at him, then finally relented. "Alright, then."
After watching Song Wan get into the car and leave, Lu Fengzhou turned and reentered the bar.
He lingered in the main hall for a while before heading toward the public area.
