Chapter 100: Convergence

“Grandfather, the Heavenly Demon Sect has caused such a tremendous upheaval. Are you saying the Heavenly Dao Sect sent only two disciples? And one of them seems rather overconfident. As for the Qian family, I already know about them. Our new homeroom teacher is named Qian Hui, so she must be a disciple of the Qian family.”
Jiang Mingyue’s heart tightened as she thought of Zhang Shouzheng and Zhong Zimo. She knew that Zhang Shouzheng’s primordial spirit contained pure yang energy and that he was extremely powerful, but opposing the entire dark path alone would probably still be impossible.
“Heh, there’s no need to worry about that. In truth, the experts of the Daoist sects have known about this for a long time. This is a grand game of strategy. The Heavenly Demon Sect has had its disciples set up a formation at Emperor Dragon High School. If the orthodox disciples manage to break it, they will willingly withdraw from the school. But if they fail, the dark-path disciples will remain there indefinitely. Mingyue, you must be exceedingly careful inside this Nine-Headed Ghost Child Soul-Seizing Formation. Three of its formation eyes do not exist in the human world—they lie within the Netherworld. So many Daoist experts have perished over the past two years. The formation has likely grown considerably in strength. Once you obtain the fragment, immediately activate the magical artifact I gave you and withdraw.”
The old man’s expression grew solemn.
“Of course I understand, Grandfather. I’ll go make my preparations first. Tonight, I’ll see for myself just how deadly this formation is.”
Jiang Mingyue nodded, then left with Jiang Puti.
Night fell. A slender crescent moon hung in the sky. The air on the mountain was crisp, and the surroundings were unusually still.
After dinner, Zhang Shouzheng went for a walk around the hospital with Jiu’er. Iron Bull shamelessly clung to Qingyu Tong, but she never once gave him a pleasant look. Amused, Zhang Shouzheng asked Iron Bull why she refused to accept him. Qingyu Tong’s answer left him both speechless and entertained: she simply could not feel any interest in someone more than a hundred years younger than herself.
After nine o’clock, Zhang Shouzheng and Jiu’er arrived beside the school wall. It stood a full two meters high, but with Iron Bull’s help, the two of them entered the school without difficulty.
The campus was utterly silent. No students could be seen, and only the distant teachers’ dormitory still showed any lights. Since there were no student residences, the grounds were unnaturally quiet, with an eerie atmosphere lurking everywhere.
Teachers who had stayed at Emperor Dragon High School for any length of time never ventured out of the dormitory after dinner. They all knew how sinister the school was. Especially over the past two years, several students had died every time a new class enrolled. For that reason, they did not dare let students stay overnight, lest something go wrong.
“Damn it. I’ve forgotten how to get to Great Mirror Lake.”
Zhang Shouzheng led Jiu’er between the classroom buildings, yet no matter how they turned, they could not reach the lake. He took out his phone and saw that it was nearly half past nine—there was not much time left before his appointment with Jiang Mingyue.
“I’ll lead the way.”
Jiu’er sighed. She picked a direction and was about to move forward when Zhang Shouzheng suddenly seized her arm.

“Shh. Don’t make a sound. I think someone is watching us.”
Zhang Shouzheng had an intense premonition. In the darkness, it seemed as though countless eyes were fixed upon him and Jiu’er. His scalp prickled. He slowly raised his head and looked toward the roof of the classroom building.
Several figures were already standing there. Their forms were blurred, their faces impossible to make out. Green resentment swirled around each of them. They stood perfectly motionless, as though they might plunge from the roof at any moment.
Jiu’er glanced up, her expression darkening.
“Vengeful spirits.”
“There are so many—more than ten.”
Zhang Shouzheng counted them carefully and spoke in a low voice.
“What should we do? They seem to have noticed us. Should we attack, or continue toward Great Mirror Lake?”
Jiu’er touched the Yin-Yang Umbrella at her back and spoke calmly. Though there were many of the spirits, none possessed enough power to pose a fatal threat to her.
“Of course we go to Great Mirror Lake. Once we summon Little Ling, they won’t dare attack us easily. With her strength at the Manifest-Yin Realm, she’ll be enough to keep them in check.”
Zhang Shouzheng stared at the yin-yang symbol on Jiu’er’s back and spoke with a grin.
Although Little Ling was merely a ghost child, she was extraordinarily powerful. Ghosts were not judged by their size, but by their energy and cultivation realm. Little Ling truly possessed the strength of the Manifest-Yin Realm.
With a sharp rustle, the Yin-Yang Umbrella opened. Mist swirled within it, and Little Ling appeared before Jiu’er in a tiny red garment. Holding the umbrella, Jiu’er walked ahead while Zhang Shouzheng followed beside her. Little Ling skipped and hopped around them.
Sure enough, the moment she appeared, the vengeful spirits vanished.
Before long, with Jiu’er leading the way, Zhang Shouzheng finally reached Great Mirror Lake.
“A ghost at the Manifest-Yin Realm?!”
A voice filled with uncertainty came from the woods.

Zhang Shouzheng looked up and saw Jiang Mingyue and Jiang Puti emerge from the trees. Both watched Little Ling warily. Jiu’er rotated the Yin-Yang Umbrella, and Little Ling instantly transformed into a stream of black mist that surged back inside.
“I forgot to introduce her. This is Jiu’er, a disciple of the Yin-Fiend lineage of our Heavenly Dao Sect—and my junior sister.”
Zhang Shouzheng smiled faintly, his hands clasped behind his back as he looked at the Jiang siblings.
“So you’re a disciple of the Yin-Fiend lineage. No wonder you keep a ghost. You’ve finally arrived. We’ve been waiting for you for quite some time. Several groups of Daoist disciples have already gone inside.”
Jiang Mingyue glanced at Jiu’er, a flicker of surprise in her eyes, though she quickly returned to her usual composure. Jiu’er was also studying Jiang Mingyue. Both young women were beautiful and carried themselves with confidence. Whenever two evenly matched beauties met, some silent comparison was inevitable. Though neither made it obvious, each was secretly observing the other’s attire.
“Others have already gone in? That’s beyond what I expected. If nothing has gone wrong, the dark-path disciples should be moving soon as well.”
Zhang Shouzheng glanced around and sensed no other presence. It seemed the dark-path disciples had already entered the formation.
“Yes. By the way, our primary purpose in entering this time is to find something—something extremely important to the Jiang family. If you help us find it, Shouzheng, my family will reward you handsomely.”
Jiang Mingyue hesitated for a moment before speaking through clenched teeth.
The Nine-Headed Ghost Child Soul-Seizing Formation was endlessly changeable. She had no idea whether she and her brother would be able to locate the fragment. But with Zhang Shouzheng’s assistance, their chances would at least be much greater.
“Oh? What exactly are you looking for?”
Zhang Shouzheng smiled, wearing an expression that suggested he had expected this all along.
Jiang Mingyue drew a deep breath. Her eyes shone like stars, and she parted her lips.
“There’s no harm in telling you. We’re searching for a treasure left behind by the Jiang family’s ancestor—the fragment of the Investiture of the Gods.”
