Lin Zhiyu walked alone down the hospital corridor. She dragged her weary body forward, her expression somewhat lost. Although she had long anticipated this day of tension and confrontation, her heart still ached uncontrollably. Memories of happier times kept surfacing before her eyes, only to dissolve into nothingness. Yet, this would not make her give up easily. Since fate had granted her a chance to climb out of hell, she would never be crushed by such trivial matters. A resolute gleam gradually appeared in Lin Zhiyu’s eyes. She turned and entered the familiar nurses’ station. The nurse who had bandaged her wounds last time brightened immediately upon seeing her. “Miss Lin! It’s really you! You look so pale. Are you still feeling unwell?” The young nurse couldn't help but feel sympathy, recalling the last time Miss Lin was scolded and beaten by her family. Lin Zhiyu smiled and shook her head, speaking as if nothing had happened. “I’m fine. On the way here, I was accidentally bumped by someone who was in a hurry. I didn’t want to make a fuss. I came today to have the wound dressed again—it’s about time for a change.” “Alright, then come inside with me. I’ll take care of it,” the nurse agreed and led her further in. Drawing the curtain, the nurse frowned painfully as she looked at the torn wound on Lin Zhiyu’s body. “Miss Lin, if necessary, you should report this to the police. If this keeps happening, your body will never heal.” She murmured softly, clutching the gauze tighter. Such a kind person like Miss Lin—how could she have such a family? It was truly infuriating! “It’s alright. I’ve made it clear to them that from now on, we have no relationship whatsoever,” Lin Zhiyu replied with a faint smile, her tone unusually light. “Really?! That’s wonderful. You’ve finally escaped that devouring prison!” The nurse could not help but cheer for her. Anyone with eyes could see that the Lin family was not Lin Zhiyu’s true home. After bandaging the wound, Lin Zhiyu took out the neatly folded bills from her pocket. It was all the money she had left. It seemed she would have to find a temporary part-time job soon; at times like this, money was absolutely necessary.

Besides, she still had to repay debts to the Lin family. As Lin Zhiyu contemplated handing the money to the nurse, the door to the nurses’ station was knocked. “Sorry to bother you.” A familiar voice caught Lin Zhiyu’s attention. She instinctively looked up and saw Fang Li, assistant to Shen Du, standing at the door. Fang Li smiled and nodded upon noticing her gaze, then approached her. “Miss Lin, our boss asked me to deliver this.” Fang Li handed her a black card. Lin Zhiyu was about to refuse but was interrupted. “Here’s the thing, Miss Lin: our boss said that since you’re cooperating, and it’s an equal partnership, you deserve proper compensation for your time. This is our boss’s supplementary card—use it for whatever you need.” Then, with a smile, Fang Li leaned in and whispered, “Our boss is quite generous in this regard. You probably need money right now, so don’t be shy. You’re both benefiting from this.” Once said, it was impossible to refuse. Lin Zhiyu finally nodded in acceptance, her fingertips gently stroking the black card as a helpless, bitter smile appeared on her face. It seemed this was the best solution for now. Besides, Fang Li’s words made sense. “Thank you very much.” “You’re welcome, Miss Lin. If there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave.” With that, Fang Li turned and left. Lin Zhiyu watched his back, then stood and left the nurses’ station herself. She went downstairs and used the card to settle all outstanding hospital bills from her stay. Technically, these expenses were registered under the Lin family’s name, which was why they had been delayed for so long. But now that Lin Zhiyu had money and had clearly severed ties with the Lin family, she wanted to avoid owing them anything. Looking at the cleared bills, Lin Zhiyu exhaled deeply. Good—her connection with the Lin family had loosened once more. From now on, even if she no longer had family behind her, she could move forward without hesitation.

Lin Zhiyu looked toward the bright sunlight at the doorway, feeling warmed through and through. She hadn’t felt such gentle sunlight in a long time. Meanwhile, Lin Qianyu’s phone received a notification about the hospital fees being fully settled. He frowned deeply, noticing the payment had just been made—obviously by Lin Zhiyu. Lin Qianyu knew this debt was originally charged to the Lin family, and he had planned to settle it after Huanhuan was discharged. Unexpectedly… “Brother, I believe that you love me, and I know it’s true. But now you have someone you love more, so you don’t care about me anymore,” Lin Zhiyu’s calm voice exploded in his mind. Lin Qianyu’s hand trembled slightly as he clenched his phone tighter. A strange look flashed in his eyes, but bitterness spread through his heart. It seemed Lin Zhiyu was truly determined to sever all ties with the Lin family. But was this really what he wanted? Although Lin Zhiyu had been willful before, making him angry, memories of their past together made Lin Qianyu feel a heavy ache in his chest. Meanwhile, sitting on the hospital bed, Lin Yihuan, perceptive of Lin Qianyu’s reaction, glanced briefly at his phone screen. In an instant, she understood everything. Then, pretending to be indifferent, she pointed at the phone and said, “Brother, why did sister pay off all the hospital bills herself? Does she really want to leave home? Please talk to her for me. I really like sister and treat her like my own. Can you convince her not to be angry?” Lin Qianyu was abruptly pulled back from his thoughts and looked at Lin Yihuan. The sympathy he had felt evaporated instantly, replaced by irritation. “Hmph. Our family treated her well, and yet she acts so ruthlessly. If she doesn’t want to be part of our family, why should we chase after her? Huanhuan, don’t forget who caused you to be hospitalized for so long!” Lin Yihuan’s eyes reddened with tears. “But brother…” “Enough. Stop talking. We’ll handle this as I say. Don’t mention her in front of me again. Huanhuan, take care of yourself. You’re the only daughter of the Lin family!”
