Volume One, Chapter 35: Bowing and Scraping
Sun Yaqin looked at the group. "Are you sure you have thought this through?"
Just like yesterday, they exchanged glances before turning their eyes toward Cheng Jun. "We will do whatever Brother Cheng Jun decides."
Cheng Jun looked at Sun Yaqin and nodded. "We have all thought it through."
She lay back down on the bed to sleep, and Wei Xiao pulled her into his arms, kissing her forehead gently.
Once the Spring Festival break was over and Wei Xiao returned to the set, he had completely lost his momentum. Before, when you looked at him on set, you knew it was Jin Jiaxi, not Wei Xiao. But now, watching him walk over with Chi Zao, laughing, it was clearly just Wei Xiao—not Jin Jiaxi.
Qin Jinyu had just lifted the curtain in front of her and had not yet stepped off the carriage when she saw the people waiting to welcome her at the gate of the Qin residence.
Watching them toast one another repeatedly, I reassured myself that Liang Jingren’s wine couldn't possibly be problematic. He had plenty of opportunities to harm us; he wouldn't need to wait until now.
Su Wushuang was slightly stunned, then came to her senses, her face full of disbelief as she stood to the side, not knowing how to react.
Looking up into those deep black eyes set in that pale, indifferent face, she knew she had let him down.
Lin Cha hugged her quilt, her hair a tangled mess; it took a moment for the reality to sink in, and then she gritted her teeth and glared at the bedroom door.
Although it was not a formal occasion, Yue Linlang had met her before—wasn't that Feng Lu? That younger sister of Qianqian's?
The next day, Huai Zhen woke up early. In the misty morning light, she saw that the brocade and velvet stained the night before had been washed clean. Huai Zhen leaned in and caught the scent of heavy-duty Lava soap.
"Wonderful! Simply wonderful!" Jia Baoyu laughed aloud. Ordinary people would not understand what he found so wonderful, but in reality, he was praising Liu Xianglian's cleverness.
Thinking back to how he hadn't told Xiao Jiaying about the cursed artifacts just to avoid involving her too deeply, Song Chengjie felt it would be a huge nuisance to have to explain it all over again now.
Having said this, Lu Zhicheng signaled for everyone to step back and slowly drew the Qingyun Xuankong Sword from his waist. Le Yiyang watched as Lu Zhicheng tapped his toes lightly against the ground and leaped straight into mid-air, swinging the blade left and right as sword energy surged toward the cave entrance. Then, with a loud crack, the massive boulder blocking the entrance came crashing down.
From this perspective, he certainly could not tell the truth. Otherwise, as soon as Ling Daozi spread this information, he and Duoluoshu would have no chance of escape.
"Qibei, since you put it that way, do you dare to sign a military pledge in the great hall?!" Nuokun sneered.
Back then, Yelu Bei suffered from the suspicion of his brother, the Khitan Emperor Yelu Deguang. His mother, Shulü Ping, and his younger brother, Yelu Lihu, both favored Yelu Deguang. Yelu Bei lived in constant anxiety, fearing for his life, which led him to take the risk and defect to the Later Tang.
Everyone had grown accustomed to the existence of the Nine Great Artifact Spirits. No one questioned who had created these spirits—whose history should have far surpassed that of humanity—as they inherited the wars left behind by their predecessors and remained entangled in the exhausting conflicts between the Human, Blood, and Demon races.
This mountain was called Chuanyun Mountain. It was rugged and steep, shrouded in clouds and mist year-round, with a snow-capped peak that gave it its name.
The precarious Jiuguan Pass, which would usually be impossible to capture without losing five, six, or even ten thousand soldiers during a continuous day-and-night assault, had fallen into the hands of the Liao army with such ease.
Looking back at Cheng Weiliang's retreating figure, she suddenly felt that the idol she admired was just as likable up close as he was from afar.
"What's there to laugh about? Isn't getting married at twenty a normal thing? I'm only fifteen, what's there to be afraid of?" Chen Fei found it baffling. If getting married at twenty was something to be mocked, then wouldn't those in later generations who remained single at thirty just want to bang their heads against a wall and die?
