Chapter Ninety: Hero Tournament (Nineteen)

Not just one thief—a cascade of four crimson beams flared up behind Xue Han!
“Careful!”
As I shouted, I realized my warning was utterly unnecessary. Despite the barrage, Xue Han lost only a third of her health, and with a swift minor healing spell, she was back to full. What did that mean? A 45% boost to healing effects was no joke!
“Help out, already!” As Xin Yu and I stood dumbfounded, Xu Lin shouted loudly. Xue Han’s stats were impressive, but even she couldn't withstand four thieves attacking at once.
Blazing explosion, shock arrow, and rapid strike—all our powerful skills were unleashed. The thieves, with mediocre gear and levels, stood no chance; they were gone in moments. Perhaps my red name increased the loot rate, because three thieves dropped seven green items. Since I killed all three, it was only right I claimed the spoils.
Xin Yu’s agility wasn't as high as mine, but archers gain more from agility than swordsmen. Her innate skill was perception, making her perfect for scouting.
Two minutes later, Xin Yu emerged from the woods behind us, dewdrops glistening on her exposed skin and leather armor. Her curves, slick with moisture, brought to mind the allure of actresses in seductive scenes—except Xin Yu’s figure far surpassed any pudgy, garish star, and she appeared much more pure. Of course, that was only appearances—
When Xin Yu was in the mood, she could drive any sane man wild…
“A berserker and five mages are searching the woods about two hundred yards west. They’ll be here in less than two minutes. What should we do?” Xu Lin turned to me, “Should we return to town now?”
I frowned, “How did you get ambushed? Was there a reason?”
Xue Han continued, “No, we were just leveling here. Then a few people arrived and asked us to move. They looked like Berserker’s group…”
“You refused to move?”
Xin Yu replied angrily, “Of course. Why should we give up our leveling spot? They started a fight, so Lin and I took care of two of them…”
I was speechless. In this situation, we were clearly in the right. Those bullies deserved to be killed—nothing more to say.
“By the way, a few other players were leveling here too, but when Berserker’s group arrived, they killed everyone except us. Guozi was among them.”
“What? Guozi was killed too?”
“Yes, and she lost a green armor piece.”
Xue Han pouted, “Guozi spent three days leveling up two levels, but today she lost two in just a few minutes. We’ll have to console her later.”

Seeing the indignation on the girls’ faces, I smiled and said, “If our team doesn’t want to be bullied, we need to take down a tough guild. How about today we wipe out Berserker and his crew, post it on the forums, and let everyone know the Vegetable Family isn’t just about high levels—we’re fierce in battle too!”
Xu Lin was overjoyed, “Yes! I’ve been waiting for you to say that. If Berserker wants revenge, let him come for me. Lin Fan, lead the way!”
I shook my head—Xu Lin’s words sounded suspiciously like “I’ll take the blame, you go risk your life…”
Activating the recording function, I strode ahead. From a distance, I could just make out Berserker and his group searching amongst the trees. The woods were vast, so they had split up; it made it easier for us to take down this isolated group.
On the team channel, Xin Yu whispered, “Five mages and a swordsman. What do you think?”
I gritted my teeth, “Kill Berserker first. His leggings and boots are both blue, while mine are only green. I want him to drop them. Since I’m red-named, their mages will prioritize me; Xue Han, keep my health up.”
With that, I charged forward. Our sudden appearance startled Berserker and his crew, especially me with my deep red name—a blood-red aura, warning others to stay away.
A fierce Frost Slash was unleashed upon Berserker. He lacked Murong Shan’s reflexes and failed to dodge—immediately frozen. What greeted him next was a flurry of combos and heavy strikes!
“621!”
“412!”
“420!”
“396!”
“504!”
Five consecutive attacks in one second, unleashing my full power. Berserker, frozen, didn’t even get a chance to groan before being sent straight back to town. Three pieces of equipment dropped to the ground, and the mages behind him were so stunned they forgot to cast spells.
Quickly, I gathered Berserker’s gear into my bag. Xin Yu’s shock shot missed the first round, so she hit the mage standing closest. Xue Han, seeing I was safe, started cursing the mages. With her excellent gear—she was the first in the world to own two purple items—her intelligence was absurdly high. Her punishment spells dealt more damage than regular mage fireballs.
In just one minute, before reinforcements arrived, the four of us took down six experts, all level 26 or higher. After clearing the battlefield, we left immediately, leaving no trace of our crime.
Unfortunately, the town scroll didn’t send me back to Hurricane City, but to a dilapidated little village—the infamous Red Name Village?
Still, though the village was small, it had everything: places to repair gear and buy potions.
Let’s see what Berserker left me—

Two blue items—excellent. I equipped them immediately. The green armor could be sold. Berserker would be devastated; normally, dying in the wild meant dropping at most one item, but he lost three at once, two of which were his only blue gear. Who knows how much real money he wasted acquiring them. Now it all belonged to me.
After repairing my gear, it seemed Hurricane City was out of reach. I’d have to wait until tomorrow for the individual tournament; it should teleport me directly to the arena. After each match, the system sends players back to town, so I should be able to enter the city then. There are no aggressive NPCs near the teleport point, so I can stroll through town with my bright red name.
I logged off, uploaded the recording to the forum, wrote a post stirring up drama about Berserker’s villainous deeds, and then went to sleep!
