“Minji, I’ll be right back. I’m going to settle accounts with the culprit.” Liu Yunfei’s eyes burned red with rage. He had never hated anyone so fiercely—not even the time Yu Qing shamefully deceived him, he hadn’t said much and had forgiven her. But this time was different. Liu Yunfei was determined not to let her off easily. She was too despicable, too shameless. How could a person be so vicious? She and that David truly were birds of a feather.

Liu Yunfei flew back to the Knights’ Castle in an instant, and even in that moment, he cursed Yu Qing hundreds of times. Yet despite it all, he refused to wrongly accuse anyone. Italy was already waking to morning; everyone was up. Liu Yunfei, transformed into the appearance of Avashid, ran up to the second floor and pushed open Salina’s room. The three women were still chatting and laughing. “Come here, where did you go so early?” Yu Qing beckoned to Liu Yunfei with a flirtatious smile.

Vile woman, still laughing, still pretending. You’ve made poor Park Minji suffer so much. If it were you, I’d never forgive you again. Liu Yunfei’s face was stern. “Ram, come out.”

Everyone noticed Liu Yunfei’s unfriendly expression. The three women glanced at each other. Ram, like a child who’d done something wrong, slowly got up and walked out. Liu Yunfei grabbed her arm tightly, dragged her to his own room, kicked open the door, and pressed her into a chair, fixing her with a penetrating gaze. Liu Yunfei would never tolerate another lie—from anyone.

“Tell me, that time I mentioned my sister Park Minji at New York University—who did you tell?”

“I only told Yu Qing and Salina, no one else.” Ram was frightened by Liu Yunfei’s fury, afraid to meet his eyes.

“What nonsense—so-called sisters, damn spies, shameless spies! Go call Yu Qing for me!” Liu Yunfei stood up in fury, cursing. Ram, still a child, finally couldn’t hold back and ran out crying.

So it was you, just as I suspected. I can forgive you for hurting me, but I will never allow you to hurt those I love most, again and again, never repentant. What’s the difference between you and that beast David? I was truly blind.

“What’s wrong with you today? Why did you make Ram cry?” Yu Qing pushed open the door, looking at Liu Yunfei, confused.

“Pretend all you want. I’ll see how long you keep it up.” Liu Yunfei pried Yu Qing’s hand off the doorknob and kicked the door shut.

“What’s the matter? Why are you angry with me again? I haven’t done anything.”

“No more pretending. It doesn’t work on me anymore. I see through your false exterior to your filthy, malicious, despicable, shameless heart. You and David—a pair of beasts, wolves in human skin!”

Yu Qing was stunned by Liu Yunfei’s tirade, taking a while to recover. “What are you saying? What nonsense? I haven’t done anything.”

“Let me remind you then, you venomous snake. Did Ram tell you I have a Korean friend at New York University named Park Minji?”

“Yes, Ram said she’s very beautiful and that you like her. What about it? Salina heard it too.” Yu Qing still seemed puzzled.

“So you passed this information to your master, Hardy, didn’t you, you vile, shameless demon.” Liu Yunfei, having spent much time with Arabs, often blurted out words like God or devil.

“What? Told Hardy? I haven’t! I haven’t left the Knights’ Castle lately.” Yu Qing replied loudly, full of righteous indignation.

“You can call, use a computer. You have plenty of methods. Last time I saw you come back for no reason, I knew something was wrong.”

“I know you still suspect me. You just suspect me, you hypocritical man. You say you’ve forgiven me, but you’re still guarding against me, doubting me! I’m telling you, I didn’t do it!” Yu Qing, both anxious and angry, shouted at Liu Yunfei.

“I know it’s you. Denying won’t help. Who else could it be? Do you know how much Minji suffered because of you? Do you know how tragic her situation is—almost died. No, it’s useless telling you these things. You’re all heartless beasts; others’ misery means nothing to you. I almost forgot—your hearts are those of wolves and dogs.” Thinking of Park Minji’s crying voice, her despair, Liu Yunfei grew more agitated, pointing at Yu Qing.

Who else but you? That sentence wounded Yu Qing’s heart deeply. She had always felt guilty for deceiving Liu Yunfei, always felt inferior to the other women beside him. No matter how venomous his words, she could endure them, but this sentence made her realize that he had always doubted her, and she had indeed deceived him. There was no point in defending herself; words would never clear her name. Even if she had to choose a traitor from the three women who knew, she would unhesitatingly choose herself.

Yu Qing said nothing, tears silently streaming down her face. She thought, people say trust is the foundation of love—can this still be called love? The hardest thing to endure is being falsely accused, and unable to prove one’s innocence. Many throughout history, unable to clear their name, have chosen a final, decisive act—death to prove their innocence.

Yu Qing suddenly shook off Liu Yunfei’s hand pointing at her, turned and ran for the balcony outside the bedroom, intending to jump. Even if she survived, the Knights’ Castle stood atop a mountain; a few steps more and she’d reach a high cliff. This was the only way left—no way to defend herself, only death. One day, you’ll realize it wasn’t me, and regret, and blame yourself, you bastard.

Liu Yunfei saw Yu Qing’s silence, thinking she’d been refuted into speechlessness, and after she struck his hand away, he wanted to hit her back, but she was already gone. He followed her, took a couple steps, then saw the golden flower on the desk, and the words on its base. He grew even angrier, picked it up, and smashed it to the floor. With great force, the granite base splintered loudly, shards flying everywhere.

Yu Qing had already reached the balcony, but the sound made her unconsciously turn back. That glance changed her mind—and her fate. Seeing the shattered granite base, Yu Qing thought herself foolish—sacrificing her life for a man who didn’t love her was not worth it. Even if she died, would he grieve? Perhaps her death would mean the truth never emerged, and the real traitor might be laughing in secret. At this thought, Yu Qing stopped, walked back to Liu Yunfei. “One day you’ll regret this.” She bent down, picking up the broken granite shards, as if gathering the pieces of her shattered heart.

“I already regret it—regret ever knowing you, regret forgiving you. Get out! I never want to see you again. Before I change my mind, leave!” Liu Yunfei truly wanted to throw this venomous snake down the mountain, to shatter her like the granite base. But, recalling their days together, he was a sentimental man; in the end, he decided simply to drive her away.

Yu Qing, sobbing, finished picking up the stones, dropping more tears. She pulled out her suitcase; she never had much, just some clothes. Dragging the suitcase, she opened the door, turned to shout at Liu Yunfei: “You bastard, I’ll say it again—it wasn’t me! You’ll regret this, bastard!”

Liu Yunfei watched her—shameless woman, even as she left, still trying to play on his kindness, hoping he’d ask her to stay. Not a chance! From the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of the butler, Shadi, slipping by. He’d long sensed someone eavesdropping at the door, but in his agitation, he didn’t care. Let them listen.

Yu Qing saw Liu Yunfei had no intention of keeping her. Wiping her tears, she dragged her suitcase away. I will never come back, not even if you kneel before me.
