Liu Ruoyi was so humiliated by Cat Brother that she almost burst into tears, but could only stare at him pitifully, her cheeks flushed. “Step aside. If you don’t leave now, my friend will be here any minute!”

“Oh really? That’s fine. Is that guy your friend too? Let’s hope your next friend isn’t as useless as him. Did you hear that? Did you see it? Would you still call that guy a man?” Cat Brother pointed at the boy who was now writhing on the ground, having tried to play the hero moments earlier, his tone full of contempt.

Liu Ruoyi glanced at the boy on the ground, a pang of guilt in her heart. Though she looked down on him somewhat, his pitiful cries were still better than those who just watched the spectacle from the sidelines.

“Stop!”

Chen Xin pushed his way through the crowd, frowning at the boy on the ground and then casting a half-smile, half-sneer at Liu Ruoyi before shouting.

The three boys stopped immediately. They often loitered near the university and naturally knew Chen Xin—his reputation far exceeded that of their boss. The only son of Shanghai’s Party Secretary, he was not someone they could afford to cross.

Cat Brother, quick-witted as ever, hurried forward with his two companions, forcing a sheepish smile. “Brother Xin, you know her?”

Chen Xin nodded, his tone serious. “Don’t call me your brother. I’ve told you many times—don’t cause trouble at the university. Why can’t you listen? Must I speak to your boss myself?”

“No, Brother Xin, no, please forgive me. I didn’t know she was your friend—just a misunderstanding, really! Next time, we won’t dare. Give us a break, will you? If you need anything next time, we’ll run faster for you!” Cat Brother lowered his voice, pleading.

Chen Xin gave them a look, and the three men quickly scuttled away.

But, as luck would have it, just as they made it four or five meters, Long Fei kicked them back, sending them sprawling a good five meters before landing in front of Chen Xin.

Long Fei was skillful; he didn’t knock them out or cripple them, but pain was inevitable. The three men saw Ye Qian already getting out of her BMW and following Long Fei, her expression excited as she glanced at them. Immediately, they cursed their luck. “God, why must we cross paths with this little demoness today!”

Clearly, Ye Qian’s reputation preceded her, and the three men were wary. Of course, perhaps they feared Chen Xin more, since he was Ye Qian’s protector—a fact well known in Shanghai.

“Qian Qian, isn’t today a holiday? Why are you at school?” Chen Xin greeted Ye Qian, using an affectionate nickname and casting a playful glance at Long Fei, who was smiling as he walked toward Liu Ruoyi.

“Don’t call me that so intimately! Listen, I have a boyfriend now, you know. If you keep calling me that, you might get beaten up by him!” Ye Qian looked at Long Fei’s back, for once not following but lowering her voice and chuckling.

Chen Xin kept a calm demeanor. “You mean Long Fei? Your bodyguard?”

Ye Qian replied, annoyed, “So what if he’s a bodyguard? I like him. He’s better than you!”

Chen Xin laughed. “But does he like you? Besides, as far as I know, he’s been spending a lot of time with Yang Danni lately. And you saw what just happened, didn’t you?” His voice was so low that the three men on the ground couldn’t catch the name Yang Danni.

“That’s my business, not yours. What are you listening for? I’ll kick you to death!” Seeing the three men eavesdrop, Ye Qian vented her anger on them, giving each a few kicks.

How rapidly things change. The boy who was crying on the ground had already slipped away, and now the perpetrators had become victims. As the old saying goes: retribution always comes, just not in the way you expect.

It was indeed retribution!

Seeing Long Fei, Liu Ruoyi forced a relaxed smile, but her eyes inexplicably grew moist. Tears slipped down her cheeks; if not for the crowd at the school gate, she would’ve thrown herself into Long Fei’s arms and cried. The scene had truly frightened her, but she hadn’t had anyone to lean on, so she’d held back.

Long Fei gently wiped Liu Ruoyi’s tears and smiled. “What happened just now?”

He glanced at Cat Brother and the others on the ground. Liu Ruoyi didn’t speak, but Long Fei guessed immediately, his brows furrowing. “Did they bully you?”

Liu Ruoyi shook her head.

Long Fei tried again. “Wrong—they tried to bully you?”

Liu Ruoyi nodded, then shook her head. “But it’s fine. That student saved me! And look, she’s already punished them. Let’s just leave it at that.”

“Kindness isn’t your fault, but never bestow it on those who don’t deserve it. Scum like them aren’t worthy of your kindness.” Long Fei said earnestly.

Liu Ruoyi hesitated, then nodded. Long Fei turned to Ye Qian, who was walking toward him. “Ye Qian, I have a task for you: go beat those three up so badly their mothers wouldn’t recognize them! You start, I’ll join you in a bit!”

Ye Qian’s spirits soared. Ignoring Long Fei’s tender moment with Liu Ruoyi, she forgot she was his employer, and, as if injected with adrenaline, nodded eagerly. She turned, licked her lips, and grinned.

Chen Xin and all the students at the gate who knew Ye Qian silently prayed for the three men. God, save those poor souls—better to be struck by lightning than tortured by Ye Qian. That would be less painful!

“Mercy! Auntie, spare us! Help!”

The school gate erupted in harrowing screams!

Long Fei had intended to teach Cat Brother and his gang a lesson, but their cries startled him. Turning around, he found the three men nearly crippled, their ribs surely broken in several places.

For once, Long Fei didn’t lay another finger on them. He left the gate with the two beautiful girls. Though both were equally lovely, their temperaments could not have been more different. As he departed, Long Fei winked at Chen Xin in thanks. As for the three unfortunates lying unconscious on the ground, he felt no pity; they weren’t dead, so there was no real trouble. Someone else would clean up the mess. Even if they died, it wouldn’t matter—this was Shanghai. If Ye Qian killed someone, Long Fei would only be amused by the spectacle. He believed that with Ye Wentian’s power, a few deaths could easily be handled.

Ye Qian was practically dragged away by Long Fei. Her ferocity and brutality in beating people made even Long Fei—a man whose profession was killing—frown. To him, even killing should be done with artistry, not the wild savagery Ye Qian displayed. That ruined the intrigue and sense of accomplishment. Even if the outcome was death or defeat, the process should have some flavor.

The car had already driven a long way, yet Ye Qian remained exhilarated, her excitement undiminished. Long Fei was embarrassed and resolved that he’d never let her beat anyone again. It was like stimulating her, triggering her inner madness prematurely, which was no good for him as her bodyguard.

Liu Ruoyi was equally impressed by Ye Qian, but sitting beside Long Fei, she wore a gentle, serene expression, as if nothing had happened at the school gate. Long Fei couldn’t help but nod silently. Girls nowadays would scream at a mantis, but few like Liu Ruoyi remained so calm. Even though she nearly cried at the gate, once she sat beside Long Fei, it seemed all danger vanished.

“Ye Qian, could you please be quiet? Don’t you think you’ve repeated yourself enough?” Long Fei was exasperated by Ye Qian’s excitement. Wasn’t it just beating up a few people? Hadn’t she done it before? Wasn’t she the leader of the Pink Army?

Only then did Ye Qian calm down. But as she quieted, she suddenly noticed Liu Ruoyi sitting beside Long Fei. The two didn’t speak, but kept exchanging glances and smiles, which made Ye Qian uncomfortable. In her mind, Long Fei was her boyfriend—even if he wasn’t willing, he’d admitted to it and should be responsible. How could he flirt with Liu Ruoyi? If he must, shouldn’t he put her first? Either both girls in front, or she alone. This arrangement was unacceptable!

Ye Qian wasn’t foolish enough to voice her displeasure now, but she made up her mind to make things difficult for Long Fei at every turn. She sulked, “So, where are we going?”

Long Fei ignored Ye Qian, turning instead to Liu Ruoyi with gentle concern. “Ruoyi, where would you like to go today? I’m free and will accompany you all day. Tomorrow, we have military training—don’t cry then!”

Liu Ruoyi blushed and smiled. “I won’t cry! I want to buy clothes.”

“Where do you want to shop?” Long Fei was surprised.

Interesting—shopping for clothes! What kind of clothes? In this heat, was it pajamas? Or a bikini? Would Liu Ruoyi ask him to help her pick something?
