Volume One, Chapter Forty-Four: Ruga Finally Captured and Brought to Justice
“If I don’t get angry, do you really take me for a fool?” Hui Yuanyuan’s face darkened with annoyance.
The faceless statue was startled.
Wasn’t this woman a simpleton before? How did she suddenly become sharp after changing bodies?
Just as the faceless statue was racking its brain for an excuse, Hui Yuanyuan pressed on, “If I worship you and you turn your back on me, what am I supposed to do? That’d be a loss for me! No, you tell me who’s responsible for my misfortune first, then I’ll worship you!”
The faceless statue breathed a sigh of relief: I thought she’d seen through me. Turns out... hahahaha...
“My power comes from offerings. Without your worship, I can’t help you,” the statue intoned seriously.
Hui Yuanyuan was dubious, “Really?”
Seeing the bait had been taken, the statue straightened its posture, “Of course it’s true.”
“Alright then.” Hui Yuanyuan hesitated briefly, then reached for three sticks of incense and lit them.
Inside the faceless statue, the twisted ghostly face was ecstatic!
Headquarters had long circulated rumors about Qin Yu. If he resolved Qin Yu today, he’d have ample bragging rights for a good while.
Hui Yuanyuan was about to bow, when suddenly she froze mid-motion.
The faceless statue grew anxious. “What are you hesitating for? Hurry and worship! Once you do, I’ll tell you who harmed you.”
Hui Yuanyuan, bent halfway, looked up and smiled at the faceless statue with a gentle warmth. “Alright, I’ll worship you now!”
Strangely, a chill ran down the statue’s back.
Why did Hui Yuanyuan’s aura shift so suddenly?
Before it could make sense of it, Hui Yuanyuan thrust the incense straight at the statue’s face.
“Hui Yuanyuan, are you mad? Don’t you want revenge?” the statue shrieked in terror, its ghostly voice echoing from within.
“Open your ghostly eyes and see clearly—who am I?” Qin Yu’s cold gaze swept over, brimming with murderous intent.
“You—you, you’re Qin Yu!”
Qin Yu’s lips curled, “Not too slow on the uptake.”
“So, are you coming out yourself, or do you need my help?”
Qin Yu’s hands tightened, her knuckles cracking.
Faceless statue: …
Is there any difference?
“If you say nothing, I’ll assume you want the latter.” Qin Yu formed seals with her hands, summoning spiritual energy.
Then...
A tiny flicker of spiritual energy danced on her fingertips, but with a soft “pop,” it vanished.
Qin Yu: (—)
She’d forgotten—her spiritual reserves were depleted.
The faceless statue, witnessing everything, burst into laughter. “Hahahahahaha... You made such a show, I thought you were about to unleash a trump card, but you served up a three! Hahahaha…”
“Since you’ve made your move, it’s my turn now!” The statue’s mocking voice reverberated from within, merciless and deafening.
Qin Yu scoffed, “You’re hardly worth my effort.”
Black mist seeped from the statue, at first in wispy tendrils, then swelling into thick waves, enveloping everything in a shroud of darkness.
The statue, once upright and righteous, now exuded a sinister aura.
“Qin Yu, prepare to die.”
The black mist surged toward Qin Yu like countless tentacles.
In the shadows, Mu Ling had been waiting.
The little black blob stood before Qin Yu, unfazed by the approaching darkness.
A tiny blob faced a mass hundreds of times its size; the mere sight was reminiscent of a mantis trying to stop a chariot.
Yet, at the very instant the black mist was about to strike, the little black blob opened a gaping maw…
Inside the statue, the ghost rubbed its eyes: Wait, where’s my ghostly energy?
Mu Ling wore a bitter expression, chewing dryly at the side, making strange noises as he gnawed.
Mu Ling: Wuwuwu! (It tastes awful!)
Qin Yu stepped forward, patting his head to comfort him. “Alright, I know, I’ll make it up to you next time.”
The statue’s ghost jaw dropped to the floor in shock.
What kind of monsters are these? Headquarters never mentioned anything like this!
For a moment, he dared not act rashly.
With her spiritual energy depleted, Qin Yu couldn’t subdue the faceless statue.
She pulled a talisman from her bag and stuck it onto the statue.
She cast a sympathetic glance at Mu Ling, who was still chewing relentlessly.
“I’ll move the statue away; take your time digesting.”
Mu Ling ignored her, quietly rubbing his sore cheeks.
Qin Yu carried the statue toward the door, only to be seized by Lu Jia, who clung to her leg, “Don’t take my immortal! I can’t live without him! Without him, I’ll die!”
Qin Yu looked down at him from above, eyes devoid of pity. “With it, you’ll only die faster!”
“No, no! The immortal promised I wouldn’t have to go to jail!”
Qin Yu mercilessly kicked Lu Jia aside. “You should’ve considered the consequences when you hurt Shu Tiantian.”
“Anyone who does wrong cannot escape the laws of heaven, nor the justice of the courts.”
“Save your strength to scrape by in prison!”
Qin Yu glanced at the statue in her arms and snorted, “You do have a knack for exploiting loopholes. If you drain him dry, he won’t need to go to jail after all.”
—
Qin Yu had barely stepped downstairs when the wail of police sirens surrounded the building.
Soon after, Lu Jia was escorted onto a patrol car.
The wicked may escape for a moment, but never forever.
Qin Yu watched as the police car departed.
“Beep beep~”
The horn snapped Qin Yu out of her thoughts.
Lu Jin Yuan got out and took the statue from her hands. “Where are you headed? I’ll drive you.”
With a free chauffeur, Qin Yu had no reason to decline.
“Lu Jin Yuan, thank you for today.”
Her depleted spiritual energy had affected her physical body, leaving her suffering from heatstroke.
Had Lu Jin Yuan not rescued her fleshly body from the roadside, she might still be lying in some forgotten corner.
When she returned to her body, Hui Yuanyuan was still asleep, so she and Lu Jin Yuan coordinated to stage a scene.
“I regard Miss Qin as a friend—no need for thanks.”
That refined “Miss Qin” sent shivers up Qin Yu’s spine. “Just call me Qin Yu or Xiaoyu.”
“Then Xiaoyu it is.”
Qin Yu nodded. “Take me to Friendship International Hospital.”
Though the ghost servant had been driven away, she still didn’t know how Mr. Su was doing.
Before getting out, Qin Yu shoved a handful of talismans into Lu Jin Yuan’s arms. “These are evil-suppressing seals. Hold one tightly in your palm for five seconds to activate it; each lasts for an hour. I won’t charge you this time—consider it my thanks for today.”
Lu Jin Yuan watched her departing figure, his fingers curling around the steering wheel.
Not far away, two figures stood stunned.
“We were worried about our sister getting lost, but who knew she’d gone off to meet a man! Our father is still unconscious in the ICU, and even if she’s not close to us, how could she do something like this at such a critical moment?”
