Chapter 112: The Simp Brought Breakfast to His Goddess, Then She Got a Boyfriend
(Page 1/3)
"Do you want to go lie on a hospital bed too?"
Luo Xing's heart jolted. She immediately turned off her phone, the screen going dark.
Then a coat still carrying her body heat was draped over her shoulders.
Gu Shiyan stared at her fingers, red and purple from the cold.
Before Luo Xing could stand up, Gu Shiyan closed both hands around hers, enveloping them in his palms.
His hands were very warm, especially in contrast to her stiff, icy fingertips.
For a moment, the warmth was so comforting that Luo Xing couldn't bear to pull away.
"If you don't want us to see, just say the word and no one will secretly peek at his private things. Was there any need to come out here and freeze?"
Luo Xing glanced at him, then lowered her eyes again, muttering stubbornly under her breath that yes, there was.
She tried to withdraw her hands.
Gu Shiyan held on firmly. "They're not warm yet."
"They'll warm up on their own once I go inside."
Luo Xing pulled her hands free, grabbed the phone that had slipped onto her thigh, and walked ahead.
Gu Shiyan was still crouched on the ground, his palms held together in the same clasping position. He turned his head to watch Luo Xing walk off without hesitation, then lowered his gaze to scan his own palms.
Luo Xing reached the restroom and entered a stall.
From Shen Que's phone, she dialed that number.
When the call connected, the noise on the other end was chaotic—the sound of mahjong tiles being shoved around.
Faint laughter and cursing between wins and losses drifted through.
"Hello? Hello! Say something! I'm busy here—didn't you go abroad for some competition or something?"
"Oh, Old Shen, your son went abroad for a competition? That must come with a hefty prize, right? You're so lucky, having such a good son."
Luo Xing listened to the fawning voice on the other end without saying a word.
Shen Runji let out a scornful laugh. "Good, my ass. I never should've agreed to let him go to high school in the first place. Now he's got his sights set high and looks down on his old man. What use is a fancy college degree? Can't put it on the table and eat it."
"That's still better than you leeching off your son's blood, isn't it?" Luo Xing said coldly.
The other end went quiet for a moment, then spat out a curse. "Who the hell are you? Why are you using my son's phone?"
"His girlfriend?"
A voice laced with curses came through. "Let me tell you something, that kid doesn't have a cent. If you really want to marry into our family, don't expect me to pay any bride price. You can buy the house and the car yourselves—don't go thinking about milking my money all day."
(Page 2/3)
Luo Xing clenched the phone tightly in her hand. "Shen Que has never spent a single cent of your money growing up! The Luo family raised him! He's one of the Luo family. If you ever dare send him another message asking for money, get yourself a lawyer. From middle school all the way to college, you haven't given him a single cent! Minor children have the right to demand child support from their parents. From a very young age, he had no adult around him—you abandoned your child in an unsupervised place for years, ignoring his basic needs. That constitutes the crime of abandonment! The law can pursue your criminal liability!"
"Bullshit! My son, how I raise him is none of your damn business. Who the hell are you, you little brat? I gave him the house to live in, and his mother sent him money. Abandonment my ass. So raising a son is a crime now, is it? Put Shen Que on the phone, I want to ask him myself..."
"He's lying on a hospital bed right now, no one knows when he'll wake up. He's your son, right? The medical bills were paid out of my own pocket. Send me the money for the medical expenses right now. Also, there's no one to take care of him—the caregiver costs money too. Didn't you just say he's your son? Then pay up."
"You! You're committing fraud! Who the hell are you? You think I'll just hand over money because you say so!"
Luo Xing heard the sound of mahjong tiles being slammed on the other end. "Even if I had money coming out of my ears, I wouldn't give it to you! Who do you think you are..."
"My name is Luo Xing. I'm the daughter of that mindless money-dispenser you always talk about."
Silence on the other end for a moment.
"Heh. One of the Luo family, huh? Aren't you rich? What's a little medical bill to you?"
Luo Xing spoke each word with absolute clarity. "After all, you're his father. The money naturally has to come from you."
"Didn't you just say the Luo family has been supporting him all along? Then consider him one of you Luos. Don't come to me."
"Fine. From this day forward, Shen Que has nothing to do with you. He's an adult now and doesn't need a guardian. Everything you just said is recorded on this call. If you ever ask Shen Que for money again, I'll hire the best lawyer in Beicheng and sue you for extortion and the illegal acquisition of another person's property!"
"You! The house Shen Que lives in is still mine! Tell him to move out!"
Luo Xing let out a cold snort. "That house was left to him by Shen Que's grandparents! The property deed has Shen Que's name on it. If you want to go to prison, go ahead and try to take it!"
"You mother—" Beep, beep, beep.
Luo Xing hung up.
When she walked out of the restroom, she found Gu Shiyan still standing where the wind blew through.
She frowned slightly. "Do you want to wear a hospital gown too?"
Seeing her come out, he finally followed her. "All taken care of?"
Luo Xing thought of that impossible man and felt a surge of irritation. "Half and half."
Even if Shen Runji agreed for now, the moment he ran out of money, he'd come looking for Shen Que again.
She had thrown harsh words at Shen Runji about hiring a lawyer, but that man was still Shen Que's father after all.
She had no right to interfere too much.
This was something only Shen Que could decide—only then could she convince her own father to hire a lawyer.
"Need any help?" Gu Shiyan saw the worry in Luo Xing's eyes, and the words slipped out almost before he could stop himself.
He regretted it the moment he said them.
What was this, anyway?
(Page 3/3)
For her sake, was he even willing to help his rival now?
Gu Shiyan inexplicably remembered a joke he'd seen online once.
A simp brings breakfast to his goddess. After the goddess gets a boyfriend, the simp says: Ah, looks like I'll have to prepare two breakfasts from tomorrow on.
"You actually could help." Luo Xing grabbed both his shoulders with her hands.
Her eyes were bright and clear as she looked at him.
Perhaps it was because he hadn't seen Luo Xing look at him like that in a long time, or perhaps he was simply bewitched.
Either way, Gu Shiyan agreed.
"Then we'll deal with this once we're back in the country. For now, let's focus on the competition." Luo Xing nodded. "Let's head back."
As she spoke, she sneezed.
"What were you two doing outside?" Qi Changbai looked at the two of them, their noses red from the cold.
Luo Xing put Shen Que's phone back.
"What exactly did you go do with Shen Que's phone? Aren't you afraid he'll be mad when he wakes up and finds out you were messing with his things?"
Luo Xing turned her gaze to Qi Changbai.
Mad?
She thought back. When she was little, she used to spend time with Shen Que. Back then they were young and loved to play, but Shen Que barely had any toys—only books.
He used to love Harry Potter. One year, for his birthday, Ms. Jiang gave him the complete set of the series, which had already gone out of print. Shen Que kept it on his bookshelf, barely daring to touch it on ordinary days.
Luo Xing had gotten into trouble with a boy in class, and the boy said he'd tell their parents. Shen Que gave up that rare, out-of-print book set just so Luo Xing wouldn't have her parents called in.
Thinking about it now, it might have been a very small thing.
But back then, that set of books meant the world to Shen Que.
"He won't be mad." Luo Xing said, pouring herself a glass of water.
Shen Que, like Luo Zhou, had never truly been angry with her.
They were family.
