Listening to her sharp, spiteful words, Luo Xing finally understood the inexplicable reason behind her behavior.

“May I ask—are you his superior? Or mine?”

No matter how important this woman thought herself, it had nothing to do with Luo Xing. She had not the slightest sense of propriety, yet she was trying to lecture her.

“I was only kindly reminding you.” Tina shrugged. “There are plenty of pretty girls like you around. I’ve seen so many that I’m practically aesthetically fatigued.”

Luo Xing wanted to throw the insult back at her, but the woman had called her pretty...

“Oh, thank you for the compliment.”

Luo Xing took the file from her hands. “I have no objections.”

It was the first time anyone had dared snatch something from Tina. She came from a family with modest influence, which was how she had risen without obstruction to become head of the secretarial department at such a young age.

Everyone beneath her treated her with utmost respect. When had she ever suffered such indignity?

“Give that back. It contains confidential information belonging to our company. You can’t have it.”

“I’ve already read through it twice, and you still call it confidential?” Luo Xing scoffed. “You certainly talk too much.”

Luo Xing carried the file outside, found the secretary from before, and handed it back to her.

“There. Your task is done.”

The junior secretary’s phone displayed a message from Assistant Song urging her to hurry. She was only a new employee and dared not offend Tina, much less complain to Assistant Song. Seeing Luo Xing come out and speak on her behalf, she immediately looked at her with gratitude.

Tina folded her arms across her chest. “Are you sure there’s no problem? Your internship isn’t even over yet, and you already dare to be so careless in your work?”

Anna clutched the file, hesitating once more.

Tina was clearly determined to make things difficult for this woman. If she did anything now...

Tina let out a cold laugh and moved closer to Luo Xing.

“Are you planning to help this mistress? You know the younger Mr. Gu is married, yet you still dress like that and force your way into his office? Everyone knows what you’re after. You’re nothing more than a pheasant dreaming of becoming a phoenix.”

“He’s married?”

Luo Xing nodded. “How do you know that his wife—”

She had not finished saying, “is me,” when her vibrating phone interrupted her.

It was a message from Assistant Song.

After reading it, she smiled faintly.

Tina continued beside her without pause. “What were you about to say? Although the younger Mr. Gu’s wife has never been publicly revealed, we all know he’s married. Don’t tell me you’re trying to make excuses for yourself now?”

Luo Xing put away her phone and looked at Tina calmly.

“Do you really care this much about matters unrelated to your job?”

Luo Xing looked at her in the same way Tina had looked at her earlier, with a meaningful, appraising gaze.

“Don’t tell me you—”

Before she could finish, Tina cut her off impatiently.

“Everyone on this floor works for the younger Mr. Gu. Naturally, we have to protect his reputation as well. Women like you are best at stirring up rumors, aren’t you? Of course we need to preserve evidence that you have absolutely nothing to do with the younger Mr. Gu.”

“What are you planning to do? What evidence?”

Luo Xing questioned her. “With all this free time, why don’t you call your superior and ask?”

“The younger Mr. Gu and Assistant Song are far too busy to bother with strays like you.”

Tina used the desk phone beside her to summon security.

She also called up two members of the media, each carrying a camera.

As soon as they entered, they aimed their cameras at Luo Xing.

“Tina, what are you doing?”

Anna hurried over to shield Luo Xing. “She’s a guest invited by Young Master Ji. You can’t treat her like this.”

“Anna, do you want to be dismissed before your internship ends? If you’re dissatisfied with your position, you can resign right now. There are plenty of people waiting to replace you.”

“I...” Anna glanced at the two cameramen. It was obvious Tina had deliberately summoned them.

She had no idea what Miss Luo had done to offend Tina. They had met only once, yet Tina was making such a huge spectacle over her.

Luo Xing did not want to put anyone else in a difficult position, so she pushed Anna aside.

In truth, the media had not been summoned by Tina. More precisely, Assistant Song had arranged for them when he sent Luo Xing the message.

Tina clearly had no idea what was really happening. Instead, she thought the two reporters had arrived at exactly the right moment.

“Make sure you record everything clearly. Search her. She entered the office without my permission just now. Who knows whether she stole some important documents?”

Luo Xing was wearing a brown wool coat over a fitted V-neck dress—the very outfit Tina had accused her of deliberately choosing to seduce men.

Of course, Luo Xing saw nothing wrong with what she was wearing.

“No, you can’t search a guest at random. Miss Luo is a woman, too.”

Anna could not help speaking up for her. “And there are two male security officers. Tina, isn’t this going too far?”

Tina looked at Anna with blatant arrogance.

“Too far? Anna, you’re fired.”

“I’m only acting in the company’s interests. If this woman really stole confidential documents from Kesheng and sold them to a competitor, the losses to our group would be immeasurable. I’d rather make a mistake than let a culprit go. If you don’t search her, you’re not leaving.”

Tina had watched Luo Xing closely in the office and knew perfectly well that she had taken nothing. She simply wanted to humiliate her.

“You can’t fire me. You don’t have the authority.”

Terrified, Anna burst into tears. She had only just graduated from graduate school and had worked desperately hard to get into Kesheng. Her internship had lasted barely two months, and she was about to become a permanent employee. She could not possibly be fired now.

Luo Xing raised a hand.

“You may search me, but I have one condition.”

Her voice was light and unhurried.

Tina sneered. “You’re in no position to make demands.”

“If you find nothing, what will you do?”

“That will only prove that I prevented something that never happened.”

“So a secretary can drive away a guest and even dismiss an intern on her own authority?”

Tina could not be bothered to waste any more time chatting with her.

“I may not have the authority, but if I report this to the executives, do you still think I won’t?”

“Gu Shiyan doesn’t have time to deal with this right now. Who are you going to report it to?”

“Kesheng doesn’t have only one Mr. Gu. Mr. Gu is the company’s largest shareholder after the younger Mr. Gu. He has the authority to deal with Anna for leaking company secrets, and with you for entering Kesheng without permission.”

Tina had said all of this for Luo Xing’s benefit. In her mind, Luo Xing should have been panicking by now.

Instead, Luo Xing did not look shocked in the least. She merely smiled.

“Tina.”

The elevator behind Tina had opened at some point without her noticing. Assistant Song stood at the front, staring at her, while Gu Shiyan stood behind him.

“If you believe Mr. Gu has the authority, then we have no need for someone who works for him here. Go back.”

Tina stared at Luo Xing in disbelief.

“You!”

She had deliberately provoked Luo Xing into mentioning Gu Ming.

What Tina could not understand was why Gu Shiyan and Assistant Song had happened to return at precisely that moment.
