Chapter 151: "This is our marriage certificate."
Tina suddenly realized what was happening. She glanced at Luo Xing, then hurriedly shifted her gaze to Gu Shiyan, who was standing behind Assistant Song, and the situation became clear.
They had been working together from the very beginning to force her out!
Gu Shiyan had known all along that she was one of Gu Ming’s people. Perhaps today’s events were an accident, but Tina did not believe for a second that Gu Shiyan hadn’t nudged things along to suit his own agenda.
Luo Xing stood still, her eyes meeting Gu Shiyan’s through the space between them.
Gu Shiyan’s eyes held a trace of a smile. He tapped on his phone a few times, then lifted his gaze to meet hers, his long lashes fluttering lightly. He raised his wrist and gave his phone a slight shake.
Luo Xing lowered her head to glance at her own phone.
Gu Shiyan: [You did great, baby. That was beautiful.]
Luo Xing smiled. As she had suspected, this was all orchestrated by Gu Shiyan.
Luo Xing had initially been angry at Tina’s unreasonable behavior, but Assistant Song had messaged her midway through, explaining that he had arranged for the media to be present. He had asked her to lure Tina into revealing who she was really working for, providing them with a legitimate excuse to fire her.
Although they both knew Tina was one of Gu Ming’s agents and had been cautious around her, having a ticking time bomb in their midst was nerve-wracking for everyone.
Seeing the two of them exchanging glances, Tina looked around. With the media present and her departure now inevitable, she decided that if she was going down, she would make them suffer a heavy blow as well—it would serve as a report to Gu Ming.
"Young Master Gu, I truly wanted to work hard for you. Even if you hadn't fired me today, I would have handed in my resignation anyway."
Tina turned to face the cameras. "I, Tina, do not work for someone who lacks principles."
"For the sake of shares, you were forced to marry someone chosen by Old Master Gu. Yet, for so long, you have lived at the office every night, never returning home. You have never let your wife be seen. When your legitimate wife fails to satisfy you, you bring a mistress into the company? If Old Master Gu could see this from beyond the grave, he would surely be ashamed to have a grandson like you!"
Tina’s expression was righteous, her words sharp and ringing with conviction. Anyone unaware of the truth might have thought she was a person of great integrity and principle.
She snatched the project proposal from Anna’s hands. "When you got your marriage certificate, you never cut ties with the Wen family. But now, because a woman from the outside flirts with you, you have Anna rush to draft a proposal to break ties with a family friend, and you don’t even let your wife review the documents, choosing instead to hand them to this woman who broke into your office?"
The media held their equipment high, training their lenses on Tina’s face.
They were ecstatic—this trip was a goldmine. They hadn't expected to uncover such scandalous secrets of a wealthy family.
If what Tina said was true, Gu Shiyan would never escape the massive public backlash. With the internal power struggle currently tearing the Gu family apart, those ruthless, cold-blooded old men would seize the slightest sign of weakness and tear it open until Gu Shiyan could no longer cover it up.
For a capitalist, public opinion could be a trivial matter or a fatal one. If no one was out to get you, it was just a tawdry scandal. But if someone was determined to bring you down, it became damning evidence.
Especially with the Harbor Project—the flagship project for Kesheng in recent years. The roadshow had just concluded, and the inspectors were not fools; everyone knew how to capitalize on an opening.
A mountain could be made out of a molehill in an instant.
"Young Master Gu, I used to admire your abilities." Tina took off her work badge and placed it on the table. "Today, I am only speaking up for Mrs. Gu. Why is your legitimate wife kept hidden, while some woman of unknown origin is allowed into the company’s internal operations? How can you guarantee she won’t leak confidential information? Your conduct makes it impossible for me to trust you. I resign voluntarily."
Gu Shiyan had been exhausted for days. He had only managed to doze off at his desk last night, and his only other rest had been in the car after the roadshow.
He had returned today hoping to resolve the issues between the Gu and Wen families, only for Tina to emerge.
He would have to settle this once and for all. He hadn't expected her to flip the narrative, claiming she was resigning because her boss was a person of such poor character that he couldn't be trusted.
"You seem very curious about my family life," Gu Shiyan said, glancing at his watch. Time was running out.
Luo Xing was nervous. Gu Shiyan had kept her identity hidden to protect her, but if he didn't refute Tina’s claims in front of the media now, Tina would win.
Luo Xing pressed her fingernails into her palms. She lowered her eyes and brushed past Anna’s shoulder. "Excuse me, please."
She walked toward Gu Shiyan, her steps steady. The surrounding employees instinctively made way for her.
The cameras shifted their focus to Gu Shiyan, pausing briefly on Luo Xing.
Luo Xing walked past the crowd and stood openly beside Gu Shiyan. "He is my legal husband on our marriage certificate. The situation you described simply does not exist."
Tina’s pupils constricted. "Ho-how is that possible? Your surname is Luo... There isn't a single prominent family with the surname Luo in the Beijing socialite circle."
If Old Master Gu had personally chosen a granddaughter-in-law, it would certainly have been a strategic alliance between equals. He wouldn't have picked someone from an insignificant family; that would be of no use to Gu Shiyan.
Tina had only suspected her because she heard Anna call her "Ms. Luo" and saw Gu Shiyan ask her to review the documents. She had assumed Gu Shiyan was protecting her.
Subconsciously, she had cast Luo Xing in the role of the mistress.
Even now, as Luo Xing spoke, Tina refused to believe it.
"I have never seen you before. There is no one named Luo in the elite circles of Beijing. If you claim to be his wife, why are you only appearing now? When Young Master Ji brought you here, he called you 'Ms. Luo,' not 'Mrs. Gu.' If you want to lie, at least make it believable!"
In front of everyone, Gu Shiyan took Luo Xing’s hand firmly. "She is not lying."
Luo Xing looked up at him, worried that he might be angry—after all, she had taken a huge risk.
But Gu Shiyan smiled at the camera. "My wife is the person I love. I am very lucky."
He unbuttoned his suit jacket and pulled out a small red booklet, held between his long, pale fingers. "This is our marriage certificate."
Luo Xing’s eyes widened. She pressed her thumb against his palm. "Who carries their marriage certificate around with them?"
Gu Shiyan opened the certificate. His voice was not loud, but it was clear enough for Luo Xing and everyone present to hear, and for the media to record:
