Chapter 3: Is He Your Partner?
“You’ve been with me for so many days—doesn’t your girlfriend get angry?”
“Don’t worry. She thinks I’m on a business trip.”
“I heard her company’s in trouble. She’s been looking everywhere for investors.”
“I know. Her company going bankrupt is just a matter of time. With that simple mind of hers, what can she possibly achieve? If it weren’t for her father, I’d never have been with her.”
The hand that had been tightly held suddenly loosened.
Su Wan took a deep breath, then, calm and composed, pushed the door open.
The two who had been in each other’s arms froze the moment they saw her.
Su Wan offered them a perfectly natural smile, turned around, and walked away.
“Wanwan, Wanwan!”
Wen Shaoran’s voice came from behind her. Su Wan did pause, but only to pick up a teacup from a nearby table and hurl it at him.
She didn’t know if it hit him or not. After throwing it, she simply turned and left.
Wen Shaoran seemed to say something in a fit of anger, but she didn’t listen, nor did she care to know.
Su Wan sat alone in her car for a long time. As she was about to leave, she suddenly remembered why she had come in the first place.
Her expression changed at once. When she called, Director Zhou informed her that she hadn’t shown enough sincerity—the signing would be postponed.
Su Wan slammed her hand heavily on the steering wheel.
...
Bar.
When Mu Yunshen arrived, a row of empty bottles already stood before Su Wan, and she was still drinking, her movements fierce.
Mu Yunshen sat down beside her. “Perfect timing. Tonight’s event—buy a dozen, get half a dozen free.”
He glanced toward the bar as he spoke, and the bartender promptly slid over another half-dozen bottles.
Su Wan looked at him. “This bar belongs to you too?”
“That’s right. This whole street is my territory,” Mu Yunshen replied with a smile.
Su Wan took a deep breath. “I’m in a bad mood. Don’t mess with me.”
“I know you’re in a bad mood—I’m not blind,” Mu Yunshen said, still smiling. “To cheer you up, how about I get you another half dozen?”
Su Wan said nothing.
It was obvious—she had no intention of entertaining him.
Mu Yunshen didn’t mind. He grabbed a bottle for himself. “Were you stood up?”
“Business negotiations not going well?”
“Heartbroken?”
At his last question, Su Wan’s hand froze visibly. Mu Yunshen immediately understood and smiled. “So, it’s heartbreak.”
“About last time,” Su Wan looked at him and said, “Thank you. I know you had that woman help me out. And since I saved you too, we’re even.”
“Mm. And then?”
Before Su Wan could answer, someone suddenly rushed in from the doorway, strode over, grabbed her hand, and tried to drag her away. “Come home with me!”
“Let go of me!”
Su Wan yanked her hand back with all her strength. The force made her stumble backward, but Mu Yunshen was right behind her and caught her.
Su Wan quickly regained her balance, slapped away the hand that had circled her waist, and stood straight.
Wen Shaoran looked at her. “Wanwan, let me explain.”
“All right, explain,” Su Wan said calmly, meeting his gaze.
“That woman is just a client. Everything I said to her was a lie!”
“Do female clients require you to embrace and hold them?”
“I… I was only thinking of the company!”
“Wen Shaoran, don’t you find your explanation ridiculous? If that’s the case, I’m sorry—I can’t accept it.”
“So what, you want to break up?”
Wen Shaoran’s face was ashen. After glancing at Mu Yunshen beside her, he suddenly sneered, “So, you’ve already found someone new, haven’t you?”
“Wen Shaoran.” Su Wan’s expression darkened, but Wen Shaoran ignored her, seized her hand, and tried to drag her out.
As they passed Mu Yunshen, he stuck out a foot. Wen Shaoran didn’t expect it at all and went sprawling to the floor.
Mu Yunshen reached out, pulled Su Wan over, and gathered her into his arms.
