Chapter 124: The Peng Family’s Dragon-Capturing Team

Ye Tian had no intention of hiding the truth. He said bluntly, “I released the flood dragon from the well.”
“A flood dragon?”
Yang Yan was immediately bewildered. “What flood dragon? Isn’t there only a spirit spring in the cave?”
Ye Tian glanced sideways at him, studying him with a puzzled look for quite some time. Only after confirming that Yang Yan was not pretending to be stupid did he finally understand.
So the Yang family really had nothing to do with the Dragon-Locking Well after all!
“Let me ask you this. Did this spirit spring—and this mountain—originally belong to your Yang family?”
“No.” Yang Yan scratched his head, somewhat confused. “My grandfather bought this mountain from the Peng family years ago.”
“The Peng family was once one of Phoenix City’s great clans. By my grandfather’s generation, the head of the Peng family had developed a gambling addiction and squandered the entire family fortune. To pay off his debts, he sold the mountain to us.”
“Why are you asking?”
“It’s nothing.” Ye Tian shook his head. “I have some bad news for you. The spirit spring has been destroyed.”
At those words, Yang Yan’s eyes widened.
“What!”
The spirit spring had been destroyed!
Hadn’t the spirit spring always been perfectly fine? How could it have been ruined so suddenly?
Yang Yan’s mind was buzzing. He simply could not understand why something had gone wrong with the spirit spring. Could it have been because of Ye Tian?
“Mr. Ye, you owe me an explanation!” Although he was extremely grateful that Ye Tian had cured his illness, the spirit spring was far too important for him to allow Ye Tian to do whatever he pleased.
“An explanation? Haven’t I already explained?”
Ye Tian sighed helplessly. “That so-called spirit spring of yours was actually a well suppressing a flood dragon. The spring water contained the dragon’s blood, which was why it had the effect of aiding cultivation.”
“So that’s what it was!”
Yang Yan was utterly shocked. If anyone else had said such a thing, he would never have believed it. But who was Ye Tian? A true master!
The words of a master could not be questioned!
“Then, Mr. Ye, why did you release the flood dragon? What benefit does it bring you?”
“No benefit. I just felt sorry for it.”
Ye Tian shrugged.
“That flood dragon was nearing the end of its lifespan. Once it died, your spirit spring would have been ruined anyway. I merely brought the process forward a little.”
Yang Yan fell silent.
Since Mr. Ye had put it that way, he naturally had no grounds to make a fuss. It was just that the spirit spring had blessed the Yang family for more than a century. Now that it was gone, he had no idea how he was supposed to explain it to the old patriarch.
Just as the two were speaking—

Ye Tian suddenly heard a shrill bellowing from the mountainside.
It seemed the flood dragon had run into trouble again.
Peering into the distance, he saw a large swath of trees collapsing in the forest, accompanied by the incessant clang of metal striking metal.
Along with it came the flood dragon’s anguished roars.
Had someone blocked its path?
“Come on. Let’s go take a look!”
Without another word, Ye Tian hoisted Yang Yan onto his back. Then he began leaping rapidly between the cliffs. As he passed through the mountains, only a blur of afterimages could be seen.
“Too fast! Too fast!”
Yang Yan screamed in terror. He had never imagined that Ye Tian’s speed on the way up the mountain had been nowhere near his limit. He was now moving several times faster than before.
Before long, they had passed through the trees and arrived near the scene of the disturbance.
From a distance, they saw eight burly men, each gripping an iron chain and pulling with all their strength in the same direction. The chains disappeared into a pool of water, yet there was nothing to be seen within it.
Yang Yan was dumbstruck, and he could barely get the words out.
“What are they doing?”
“They’re capturing the flood dragon,” Ye Tian explained with a frown.
In Yang Yan’s eyes, the men appeared to be dragging iron chains out of the water. But from Ye Tian’s perspective, the ends of those chains were fastened to a massive flood dragon struggling in agony.
“You can’t see it?”
“No, but I can more or less figure it out.” Yang Yan swallowed hard. No matter how one explained it, eight burly men wrestling with a pool of water was bizarre and utterly incomprehensible.
Besides, the pool was clearly very shallow—only ankle-deep. It was impossible for it to conceal anything heavy. Why were they straining so hard?
“Do you know those men?” Ye Tian asked again.
“I do. They’re descendants of the Peng family. Every member of the Peng family is tall and powerfully built. You can recognize them at a glance.”
“But didn’t they move into the city? Why did they suddenly come back and climb the mountain?”
Yang Yan was puzzled.
“Didn’t I already tell you? They’re capturing the flood dragon and intend to take it away.” Ye Tian glanced at him. Had the fool been swept away by a flood and gotten water in his brain?
He was supposed to become the head of the family one day. How could he fail to see something so obvious?
“Oh, I understand now!”
At last, Yang Yan caught on. He cried out, “That tourism company trying to buy the mountain was founded by the Peng family. No wonder!”
So after spending such a vast sum of money, their true objective had actually been the flood dragon in the spirit spring!
Seeing the look of sudden realization on Yang Yan’s face, Ye Tian could not help covering his own.

Thank heavens—you finally came to your senses.
“You stay here. I’m going to help.”
“Help whom?”
“Certainly not those people!”
The moment he finished speaking, Ye Tian vanished. In the next instant, he appeared between the crowd and the iron chains.
With several crisp clangs, all eight iron chains snapped.
“Who are you?”
The bearded man leading the group threw down the chain in his hand and stared at Ye Tian warily.
The Peng family’s dragon-catching team had arrived on the mountain two hours earlier and concealed themselves near the cave, waiting for the Yang family to come and open the entrance.
Once that happened, all they would have needed to do was follow them inside and lead out the flood dragon.
But before they could make a move, the flood dragon had unexpectedly roared its way out!
The sudden turn of events had thrown them into disarray. The group hurried after the water flowing down the mountain until they finally intercepted the flood dragon halfway up the slope.
Who could have guessed that a young man would suddenly appear and sever the chains without so much as a word? Clearly, he intended to interfere.
When Ye Tian failed to answer, the bearded man put on a more agreeable expression and cupped his hands.
“Young brother, we have no grudge against each other. Why are you stopping us?”
“Well, I certainly have no grudge against you.”
Ye Tian spoke indifferently.
“But you came to someone else’s mountain in the middle of the night to steal something. Did you obtain permission?”
Damn it. This one was no pushover.
The bearded man’s heart tightened as he came to a realization. It seemed this man already knew what they were doing.
His eyes shifted, and he immediately changed tactics, speaking ingratiatingly.
“Young brother, this isn’t theft. This great flood dragon is originally the property of our Peng family.”
“The Yang family refuses to return it, so we brothers were forced to resort to this.”
“How about this? Do me a favor and let us take it away. Name your conditions—I’ll agree to anything.”
“How about ten billion? Ten billion in Dragon Country currency?”
“Heh.” Ye Tian smiled at that.
“That won’t do. This flood dragon has just acknowledged me as its big brother, so I’m going to protect it.”
