Chapter 55: I, Donating Five Hundred Million!
As soon as the words fell, security personnel immediately started walking over.
“That’s him!” Sun Shuai declared smugly, pointing at Ye Tian’s nose. “Check this guy right now! See if he’s on the guest list!”
“Of course, Mr. Sun,” the head of security replied with a bright smile, greeting Sun Shuai warmly. But when he turned to Ye Tian, his attitude shifted completely, his face hardening as he asked,
“What’s your name?”
Ye Tian remained calm. “Ye Qiu. My name is on the list. I had Yang Yiqiu arrange it.”
But the guard’s face changed at once. Without even glancing at the list, he grabbed his radio and called, “Boys, get over here. We’ve got someone trying to sneak in for a free meal!”
Within moments, a dozen uniformed guards surrounded Ye Tian.
“So, are you going to leave on your own, or do we have to throw you out?” the captain threatened, reaching for Ye Tian’s collar—only to have Ye Tian slap his hand away.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Ye Tian frowned.
He had clearly entered through the proper channels. Though he was wearing a disguise and had changed his name, Yang Yiqiu had registered him on the list.
Moreover, Ye Tian had even handed his bank card to the organizers for verification.
That card held more than two billion yuan in cash, all seized from Xu Manjin!
How could he possibly be mistaken for someone scrounging for a free meal?
“What am I doing?” the captain sneered. “You’re pretty shameless, aren’t you? Don’t you know that only invited dignitaries are allowed at tonight’s charity gala?”
Ye Qiu—what kind of name was that? He’d never even heard of it.
Besides, Mr. Sun Shuai himself had pointed out that this guy was an imposter.
The captain thought to himself, This Sun Shuai just donated fifteen million on a whim; no doubt he’s one of the wealthy Sun family’s heirs.
If I perform well for this rich young master, maybe I can make a connection, even get some tips.
With that thought, the captain’s arrogance grew.
“If you know what’s good for you, get out now. Don’t stick around and risk a beating.”
“What more do you want me to say? I came in with Yang Yiqiu. If you don’t believe me, ask her yourself,” Ye Tian forced himself to explain, holding back his anger.
This guy wouldn’t even bother checking the list, as if convinced he wasn’t on it.
Was Sun Shuai his father, that whatever he said went?
Though fury burned inside, Ye Tian didn’t plan to make a scene. He couldn’t be sure how well his disguise would hold up in a scuffle. If it tore during an argument, his entire plan would be ruined.
“Yang Yiqiu, again? You really dare drop her name!” the captain laughed, spitting his words with contempt as he pointed to Ye Tian’s unremarkable face. “Take a look at yourself. With a mug like that, you think you could know Yang Yiqiu?”
“Don’t make us laugh!”
A chorus of guards erupted in laughter.
Ye Tian frowned. Yang Yiqiu was still backstage changing, with no sign of returning soon.
“Fine. Since you all think I’m here for a free meal,” Ye Tian said, “I’ll donate five hundred million. That should settle it.”
He pulled out his bank card and set it on the table.
“What did you say? Donate? How much?” the captain asked, thinking he’d misheard.
“I, Ye Qiu, will donate five hundred million!” Ye Tian’s voice was firm.
A hush fell over the crowd. All eyes turned to him before bursting into even louder fits of laughter.
“Oh my god, I can’t take it! He says he’s donating five hundred million!”
“Is there any need to pretend this hard? Does he think he’s Qian Wanbao, with that kind of cash?”
“This kid’s probably never even seen money. He has no idea what five hundred million means. Just spouting numbers to avoid being thrown out.”
“This is too much. I’m embarrassed for him!”
Even Sun Shuai was stunned.
Was this man an idiot? Spouting a lie that could so easily be exposed—was he just trying to embarrass himself?
“Hurry up and kick him out. Don’t bully him, though; after all, he’s clearly not right in the head,” Sun Shuai waved dismissively.
“Yes, sir!”
The guards, encouraged, closed in on Ye Tian.
But before they could touch him, an invisible pressure seemed to fill the air. Muscles tensed, and none of them could move forward.
“I’ll say this one last time—bring your manager here. I’m donating five hundred million,” Ye Tian declared. He picked up his black card and flicked his wrist; the card flew like a dagger and embedded itself in the host’s podium.
A gasp swept through the room.
“What’s this?” The event manager stared blankly for a second, but as soon as he recognized the card, cold sweat broke out on his back.
Wasn’t this the card belonging to Mr. Ye Qiu?
An hour before the gala, Yang Yiqiu had brought in an unremarkable young man and requested a routine fund verification.
But soon after, a terrified staffer had come running over and whispered in his ear.
Only then did the manager learn that this ordinary-looking card contained a staggering two billion, eight hundred and thirty million yuan!
He’d had people investigate for a long time, but could never identify the cardholder. The card was so heavily encrypted, they couldn’t even get a phone number.
And now—at this moment—the prestigious black card had been thrown onto the podium as if it were nothing more than a dart.
Following everyone’s shocked gaze, the manager looked toward a group of security guards, at the center of which stood a young man.
“Mr. Ye Qiu!” the manager cried, as if possessed, tearing down from the stage and abandoning his duties as host.
“Mr. Ye Qiu, your card!”
He called out, rushing into the crowd and dispersing the guards, then respectfully handed the card back to Ye Tian.
Ye Tian took the card impassively and slapped it on the table. “To avoid being accused of freeloading, I intend to donate five hundred million. Is there any problem?”
“No problem at all, of course not!” The manager was so moved he nearly wept. His guess had been right: this mysterious guest, arriving with so much wealth, was surely one of their foundation’s top clients.
And indeed, his first offer was five hundred million!
Heaven help him—this was like a dream!
“Mr. Ye, please enjoy the refreshments. We’ll discuss the donation in detail after the banquet.”
The manager’s deferential attitude stunned the head of security, who stammered in disbelief, “Manager, this guy’s just here for a free meal—are you sure you haven’t been fooled?”
