Chapter 110: Changing the Lock (2.3)

To flirt with another woman right in front of his own woman—any man with a bit of cunning or a desire to be a gentleman wouldn’t do such a thing. Yet Long Fei did it, and did so with brazen arrogance and recklessness. Not only did he tease her, he did so quite fiercely. But this was in line with his character: life was meant for doing things, and whatever you do, you must live freely and unrestrained. If every action had to be bound by constraints, then life would lose its meaning.
Of course, Yang Danny was not like ordinary women who would throw tantrums out of jealousy, nor was she one of those foolish women who would belittle Long Fei for it. She always faced everything with a smile. Even when Long Fei’s teasing enraged Wen Qi to the point of cursing, she harbored no resentment.
There was no doubt that Yang Danny was an intelligent woman who knew how to capture a man’s heart. Long Fei, who kept an eye on her expressions, nodded secretly to himself. Every man hoped not to end up with a woman who was a born jealouspot. As a rogue aiming to charm every beauty under the sun, Long Fei was even less willing to find such a woman.
“All right, let’s go. Let’s eat out together, then come to my place tonight. I have some business to handle tomorrow and might be delayed for several days,” Long Fei said with a smile.
Yang Danny nodded. Though she felt a twinge of sadness hearing that Long Fei would leave tomorrow, she showed nothing on the surface. Instead, she carefully placed the flowers Long Fei had brought into a delicate vase she had bought a few days ago, tidied up the office, and only then did the two of them leave together.
Outside, the stars were already twinkling. But that was good—it meant they wouldn’t attract much attention walking together.
They had just found a restaurant and were about to eat when Ye Qian’s call came through. Hearing that Long Fei was dining with Yang Danny, Ye Qian, like a suddenly awakened tigress, immediately barked at him to return to his rented place within ten minutes before slamming down the phone.
Long Fei understood Ye Qian’s mood well. To her, she was the rightful girlfriend—the one who deserved his company. Besides, Yang Danny was several years older than Long Fei; how could she take precedence? She was about Long Fei’s age and perfectly matched for him!
So, hearing that Long Fei was with Yang Danny again, Ye Qian felt wronged and, recalling the fight she had with her father earlier that day over Long Fei, grew even angrier.
“Did she tell us to go back?” Yang Danny smiled. She only regarded Ye Qian as a little sister, never as a rival. Women like her either didn’t compete or, if they did, the battle would be fierce—and Yang Danny didn’t want Ye Qian to get hurt in such a struggle.
Long Fei nodded. “Forget her. Let’s eat!”
“Should we go back? Does she have a key?” Yang Danny probed gently.
Long Fei laughed, “Besides you, only I have a key.”
Yang Danny felt a warm sweetness in her heart. It seemed she was almost the mistress of Long Fei’s home now—a promising sign.
“You have my key too, right? How about going to my place tonight?” Yang Danny smiled.
Long Fei nodded, then shook his head. “No, I don’t want to be disturbed. But if I went to your place tonight, Ye Qian would probably bite me to death tomorrow!”
Just as Long Fei said, he wanted to enjoy a carefree night with Yang Danny, but he worried Ye Qian’s jealousy might explode. Perhaps he didn’t fully realize it yet, but maybe what he feared wasn’t just Ye Qian’s thunderous anger but the heartbreak that could follow.

Yang Danny nodded, understanding something silently but unwilling to say it aloud, quietly eating.
Ten minutes passed quickly, and Long Fei’s phone rang again.
He hesitated before answering, and Ye Qian’s voice immediately blared out, loud enough to be heard clearly.
“Long Fei, hehe, sorry! Haha! I’m already at your place! And I broke the door!”
Then she slammed the phone down.
Yang Danny heard it clearly. “Is she joking?” she asked calmly, though Ye Qian’s tone didn’t sound like a joke at all. Given Ye Qian’s nature, something like this was entirely possible.
Long Fei wiped the sweat from his brow. “I think we better hurry back. If we’re late, who knows what this crazy girl might do!”
They quickly hailed a taxi back to the community where Long Fei rented his apartment. Just as the elevator doors opened and they were about to rush in, someone stepped out and blocked their way.
The man carried a shoulder bag, looking like a repairman. Seeing Yang Danny, his eyes lit up. He hurriedly stopped her, grinning excitedly. “Oh! Are you Miss Danny? Am I seeing things? I’ve really met my idol! Can you sign an autograph for me?”
Long Fei wanted to puke. How could a grown man be so disgusting? An idol? He had no idols—if anyone, it was that infamous West Gate fellow from Jin Ping Mei. Otherwise, Long Fei only considered himself the idol.
Yang Danny glanced at Long Fei, embarrassed. “Sorry, we’re in a hurry. Maybe another time?”
Only then did the man notice Long Fei. He was startled and gave Long Fei a sly look. “Miss Danny, do you live in this community? And who is he?”
“Checking up on us? Let me ask you—what are you doing wandering the hallways this late? Up to something bad?” Long Fei grew impatient.
The man became defensive, pointing at a badge on his chest. “How can you talk like that? Do you think I’m a thief? Look carefully—Master Wang, locksmith company. We’re the biggest locksmith business in Tianhai, hmph!”
Long Fei sneered coldly. “There are plenty of fakes these days. Who knows if you’re real?”
“You’re unreasonable—harder to deal with than that girl just now. I’m not talking to you,” the man said, turning his head. But to Yang Danny, his tone softened immediately. “Miss Danny, your friend is difficult, but it’s okay—you’re my idol. Please sign for me quickly! You don’t know, my whole family loves watching your news program!”

Yang Danny sighed and took the pen, signing her name. Though she wasn’t a celebrity, she’d encountered this kind of thing before and found it nothing unusual.
Suddenly, Long Fei grew anxious. “Hey, Master Wang, you said which girl? On the eighth floor?”
Carefully taking the pen and notebook from Yang Danny as if they were priceless treasures, the man’s demeanor seemed to improve. But then he grew impatient. “Yeah, what about it?”
“This is bad. Hurry!” Long Fei grabbed Yang Danny and rushed into the elevator.
Outside, the man fumed. “That guy’s shameless—how dare he touch my idol’s hand? Who does he think he is?”
Arriving at his door, Long Fei nervously said, “Hurry, open the door!”
He had forgotten he also had a key.
“I can’t open it,” Yang Danny said helplessly, pulling out a key. Neither was dumb—they both knew what had happened without saying it.
Long Fei shook his head, brows furrowed, cursing Ye Qian in his heart but resignedly rang the doorbell. The situation was absurd—he, the tenant, was locked out by his own guest.
After three or four rings, Ye Qian’s impatient voice came from inside. “Alright, alright, I’m coming. I’m in the shower, will open the door soon!”
Then silence.
Long Fei was furious. That witch was too cunning—she changed the lock and was enjoying herself inside. She had called him to hurry back, but now she wasn’t in a rush at all. Shower my foot—it was deliberate.
Thinking of the locksmith man earlier, Long Fei regretted not bringing him along to ask why he helped change the lock. Ye Qian had no lease contract, no ID card—how did she get this man to help? Clearly against the law. Hmph, must have used her charms, Long Fei thought bitterly.
“Ye Qian, open the door!” Long Fei yelled, pressing his mouth to the crack in the door and shouting wildly.
But his calls had no effect. This time, pressing his ear to the gap, he heard some noises—but not of a shower. It sounded like someone cracking sunflower seeds.
