Chapter 114: Looking Down on Others with a Dog’s Eye
Ise City in Mie Prefecture is not the most prosperous or bustling city in Japan, yet it enjoys widespread fame across the country, a reputation primarily owed to the Ise Grand Shrine.
The Ise Grand Shrine is the most important Shinto shrine in Japan, dedicated to Amaterasu, the sun goddess and ancestral deity of the Imperial family. Legend has it that Amaterasu sent her grandson down to earth with rice seeds to become the Emperor and teach the Japanese people how to cultivate rice. Unlike the dynastic changes in China, the Japanese imperial lineage can be traced back to the first Emperor; no matter how powerful a Shogun became, even as the de facto ruler, none dared to usurp the throne.
As Long Fei stepped out of the airport, the flight attendant kept bowing to welcome him to Ise for sightseeing. Long Fei couldn't help but smile; she was quite pretty, resembling a certain Japanese adult film star. If she knew the consequences of his visit, she might have been moved to tears—she certainly wouldn't be welcoming him, and might even be cursing him internally never to return.
In truth, this was not Long Fei's first time in Japan, though he had never been to Ise. Emerging from the arrival hall, he spotted two young men in the distance holding a sign with his name on it. The handwriting was mediocre, but it was conspicuous enough for him to see clearly.
"You're here to pick me up, right?" Long Fei walked up to them and grinned.
The two young men didn't recognize him, but since no one would dare impersonate someone in this situation, and hearing his fluent Chinese, they nodded. One of them looked him up and down before saying coldly, "You are Long Fei?"
Long Fei was stunned. What kind of question was that? He had already confirmed it—was there any room for doubt?
"The one and only," Long Fei replied indifferently.
"Oh, right. Brother Six sent us to pick you up. The hotel is already booked, please follow us." They led the way, and Long Fei followed.
Brother Six? Who was Brother Six?
A Honda was parked nearby. Seeing such a car in Japan was perfectly normal, and Long Fei understood that these guys likely used such vehicles to avoid suspicion. Yet, he still felt a sense of irritation; as a self-respecting nationalist, anything "Made in Japan" naturally triggered his aversion.
The driver was also a young man in his twenties. Seeing his two companions bring Long Fei over, he widened his eyes, gave Long Fei another once-over, and seemingly unimpressed, asked his companions with a smirk, "This is the guy Brother Six sent us to pick up?"
Long Fei felt a bit frustrated. "When is your Brother Six coming to see me?"
Damn, they were putting on quite an air, sending two lackeys to pick him up. What was even more annoying was that all three seemed to look down on him. Did a "master" have to have three heads and six arms, or be a seven-foot-tall, broad-shouldered man as the ancients described? He wasn't short, nor was he fat, but all the food he ate seemed to turn into fat rather than muscle.
As the car started, the driver ignored him. The young man beside Long Fei said coolly, "Brother Six will come to the hotel to see you later!"
Long Fei closed his eyes to rest. There was no point in talking to these people; he would just have to teach them a lesson when the opportunity arose.
The Seaside Hotel was the most upscale five-star hotel in Ise. It seemed a bit excessive to use it to accommodate a small bodyguard like him. It was no wonder the three young men were disgruntled; they had followed Ye Wentian for years and were only ever put up in four-star hotels. Having never enjoyed such treatment themselves, they felt aggrieved and naturally harbored no goodwill toward Long Fei.
Although the Seaside Hotel was only seven stories high, its design was grand. The lobby ceiling was over seven meters tall, and the lighting was opulent. The massive glass curtain walls were impressive, but what satisfied Long Fei most were the receptionists—they were absolute beauties, and their politeness was almost comical. Why did they keep bowing? Even if, historically speaking, the Chinese were the ancestors of the Japanese, there was no need to be so respectful. And even if they wanted to acknowledge their roots, the Chinese had long stopped treating them like grandchildren. After all, they were the ones acting so servile.
The presidential suite was surprisingly spacious, covering nearly 600 square meters. It featured cream-colored curtains, high-end sofas, exquisite wall lamps, elegant carpets, and a parlor palm acting as a natural humidifier. One entire wall was a glass curtain wall, and there was a 30-square-meter balcony with a set of white jade-magnolia furniture. The view of the deep blue sea was breathtaking.
Long Fei had stayed at the InterContinental Hong Kong before, where the suites were 650 square meters and overlooked Victoria Harbour, but the price there was over ten thousand dollars a night.
When the young man led him into the suite and saw Long Fei nodding in satisfaction, his expression darkened. He said coldly, "Mr. Long, please rest. Brother Six will come to see you when he is free!"
Long Fei had been planning to pour himself a glass of red wine to relax, but the man’s comment really angered him. Wasn't this "Brother Six" just the Xiao Liu that Ye Wentian had mentioned? To put on airs and act superior in front of him was unforgivable.
"You, come here!" Long Fei said coldly.
The man paused, hesitated, then walked over to Long Fei, frowning in confusion. "Is there something else, Mr. Long?"
Long Fei's voice remained icy. "What did you just say? 'When he is free'? When exactly will that be?"
Long Fei didn't plan on staying here long. Even if Ise was a famous tourist city, he preferred the comfort of home with Yang Danni.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Long. Brother Six only told me to bring you here to rest and said he would come when he had time. I don't know anything else."
*Bang!* The man fell to the floor, clutching his crotch, staring at Long Fei in shock and disdain.
Yes, it was a lethal kick to the groin. Long Fei had struck without warning; he felt that for a guy like this, nothing less would vent his anger.
"You—!" It took a long time for the man to utter the word.
The killing intent radiating from Long Fei left him speechless.
Long Fei crouched down, pointed a finger at the man's nose, and scolded, "Don't judge a book by its cover! Get out of here right now. I don't want to see you again. But give Xiao Liu a message: if I don't see him in half an hour, I'm leaving immediately. I think he knows the consequences."
Terrified by Long Fei's presence, the man scrambled away,忍ing the pain.
Long Fei had just poured his wine and hadn't even tasted it when Ye Wentian called.
"Long Fei, not satisfied with the accommodation I arranged for you?" Ye Wentian laughed on the other end.
"The place is fine, but I haven't seen your short-sighted subordinate, this 'Xiao Liu' fellow. I've already warned him—if he's not here in half an hour, I'm coming back!" Long Fei chuckled.
Ye Wentian sounded slightly annoyed. "What? They dare to neglect you? Don't worry, I'll call them right now. Just rest for a bit. Why don't you call a Japanese girl to blow off some steam? Haha, it’s on me!"
After hanging up, Long Fei cursed Ye Wentian.
What kind of nonsense! Why would he need Ye to pay for his women? Was he poor? If he were going to patronize someone, it would be Ye's wife. As for Japanese girls, unless they were virgins, he had no interest. *Heh!*
Perhaps Ye Wentian had made the call, because barely ten minutes later, there was a knock at the door. Long Fei said slowly, "I'm busy right now. I'll open the door when I'm free."
The knocking stopped instantly. Long Fei sat on the balcony, enjoying the view and sipping the hotel's vintage Pinot Noir. He knew a bit about this wine—it was a primary grape for French champagne and rosé, difficult to grow and ferment, often called the "headache grape" in California.
After resting for nearly half an hour, Long Fei finally opened the door. A man in his thirties stood there with a smile, showing no signs of anger. He looked ordinary, but Long Fei could tell he was skilled—certainly better than the bodyguards at Ye Wentian's estate. It was no wonder Ye had entrusted him with the mission in Japan.
"Mr. Long, my apologies. I had an urgent matter to attend to. Please forgive my brothers for their disrespect. I assure you, it won't happen again!" Xiao Liu said cheerily.
You don't hit a smiling face. Although there was little sincerity in Xiao Liu's eyes, since he had apologized, Long Fei didn't want to be petty. He nodded and let Xiao Liu into the room without offering any apology for making him wait half an hour.
Long Fei sat on the sofa, continuing to sip his wine without inviting Xiao Liu to sit. Tit for tat.
Xiao Liu didn't mind, sitting down himself and saying, "Mr. Long, was your journey smooth?"
Typical small talk.
Long Fei nodded. "Fine, just had to deal with a few short-sighted fools who looked down on me. It was quite irritating. Anyway, since you managed to find time in your busy schedule to see me, I feel much better now."
Xiao Liu’s face flushed slightly, and he gave a forced laugh. "Mr. Long, you're joking. I really did have an urgent matter. I've explained and apologized; surely there's no need to dwell on it?"
Long Fei was taken aback. *Damn, this guy has a temper.* He had been disrespectful, and now he was annoyed because Long Fei was calling him out on it? If that was the case, Long Fei would have to press the point.
"Apologized? Yes, you did. But my time is precious. I came to Japan at the request of Boss Ye, so I hope you can cooperate. Otherwise, I have a bit of a temper, and if I do something rash, you won't like the outcome. And I trust Boss Ye won't do anything to me over it, understand?" Long Fei sneered.
Xiao Liu’s eyes narrowed. *A mere bodyguard talking so big,* he thought. Ye Wentian had indeed called him, but he had hinted that Xiao Liu should find an opportunity to spar with Long Fei. Xiao Liu had misunderstood—Ye meant for him to learn from Long Fei, but Xiao Liu took it as a test of Long Fei's abilities.
"Oh? And what kind of 'rash' things would you do, Mr. Long? I'm curious!" His tone was no longer respectful. He would cooperate, but if Long Fei pushed too far, he wasn't a pushover either.
Until now, Xiao Liu didn't even know the true purpose of Long Fei's visit. He was Ye’s trusted aide, but even so, some things were kept from him.
"You know, as Miss Ye's bodyguard, my specialty is fighting and killing. I don't think you want to experience that, do you?" Long Fei challenged.
Xiao Liu smiled coldly. "Is that so? My men have already told me—they say you strike suddenly and are hard to defend against. I’d like to see it for myself. Would you care to teach me a few moves?"
Long Fei laughed, "Gladly. But as you know, I strike suddenly—very, very suddenly. If you get hurt, don't complain, and don't let it interfere with Boss Ye's plans."
"Don't worry," Xiao Liu said, standing up and taking a formal stance. "I know the priorities. I guarantee it won't affect the plan. We're all working for Boss Ye, and I will cooperate with you fully!"
Long Fei stood up and nodded. "For that statement, don't worry, I won't go too hard on you."
"Please, Mr. Long, don't hold back. I don't want you to go easy on me. To be honest, I'm a straightforward man, and I have my doubts about whether you can carry out Boss Ye's plans. You’d better make me truly convinced. Come on!" Xiao Liu assumed a standard Sanda fighting stance.
Long Fei gestured with his hand. "You go first. If I strike, you won't have a chance. It’s very, very sudden!"
Xiao Liu felt a spike of anger, but as a former combat instructor for a special forces unit, he knew that losing one's cool was the greatest taboo. He quickly adjusted his mindset, reached his peak state, and lunged forward.
