Chapter 10: Taking Action

Carter didn’t believe Damon at all. As he released several mechanical messenger pigeons, he also issued orders within the city.

Li Bin, who was observing everything outside the city from within, received a system message: “Lord Carter of Uyada is preparing to forcibly conscript the troops stationed outside the city to defend it. Do you agree?”

Li Bin smiled faintly and chose to refuse. Then he turned to Wuxiang Reincarnation, seated beside him, and said, “It’s about to begin. Get ready. I’ll go mobilize some troops.”

“Mobilize troops?” Wuxiang Reincarnation looked at Li Bin in surprise. “All four city gates are closed. Where can you get troops from?”

“If I can’t bring them in from outside, can’t I at least bring in troops from within the city?” Li Bin replied easily, and then summoned the twenty-seven corpse mages he had hidden in the munitions factory.

Along with the corpse mages came three new types of soldiers Li Bin had designed recently.

The Level 8 Cyclops Corpse Demon, with 16 attack, 14 defense, and 120 health points, fully named the Undead Construct Cyclops. Standing three and a half meters tall, its entire body was assembled from more than twenty standard corpses of level 5 or higher. It possessed immense strength and swift movements, capable of ejecting five hundred kilograms of flammable fat within three seconds, which it could ignite and hurl like boulders, carrying twenty-four rounds at once.

According to the properties of the fat, it could be divided into phosphorus fire bombs, toxic fire bombs, and fat bombs. Moreover, the laser emitted from the ruby embedded in its singular eye was one of its most important close-combat weapons.

The Level 8 Undead Battering Ram, with 10 attack, 17 defense, and 200 health points, was a war machine modified from the soul-mechanical battering ram. Its exterior was a compact triangular vehicle that could reach the speed of a charging human knight. Its heavy armor could withstand most physical and magical attacks, and its interior could hold a small squad of standard-sized soldiers.

A huge spike at the front was designed to smash city gates, and an extendable ladder at the rear connected the crew compartment to the exterior. The sides featured ports for releasing fire and toxic gas, ensuring the battering ram wouldn’t be stopped by enemy cannon fodder or swarm tactics as it advanced.

The Level 8 Nether Spirit Lamp, with 13 attack, 12 defense, and 80 health points, was redesigned from the soul-mechanical lamp genie. Instead of using a virtual soul, it was formed by high-level ghost soldiers and numerous standard souls. Thus, the summoned Nether Spirit Lamp no longer had the original pale blue body but instead radiated a fluorescent green. Its abilities shifted from freely casting large numbers of positive and negative support spells to focusing exclusively on unleashing negative support spells against enemies.

After introducing these units to Wuxiang Reincarnation, Li Bin, right before his eyes, converted all the standard corpses he had collected into the three primary undead units.

At that moment, another system prompt appeared: “Lord Carter of Uyada is once again attempting to forcibly conscript the troops stationed outside the city to defend it. Do you agree?”

Li Bin again chose to refuse, then said to Wuxiang Reincarnation, “It’s about time.”

Wuxiang Reincarnation immediately stood up and spread a map of Uyada City before Li Bin. “According to my recent scans, there are signs of treasures here, here, and here.”

Li Bin glanced at the map and memorized the three locations. Then he told Wuxiang Reincarnation, “There’s about to be chaos outside. It’s best if you stay here.”

With that, Li Bin notified Ted and Gru, who were stationed outside the city, that if Carter tried to conscript them again, they should launch a counterattack. At the same time, he released all the newly summoned basic undead units.

In an instant, chaos erupted within Uyada City. Some players hiding in their own munitions factories seized the opportunity to unleash their forces and loot at will.

Though Carter’s patrol troops within the city tried desperately to contain the disorder, they were too few and were quickly overwhelmed. Upon learning of the situation, Carter urgently redeployed troops from the city walls to quell the unrest.

But it was already too late. Li Bin had already released a squad of Cyclops Corpse Demons and a squad of Undead Battering Rams. These two groups of monsters now bypassed the chaotic areas and charged toward a secluded section of the city wall, where they began to destroy it.

Meanwhile, Li Bin himself led twenty-seven corpse mages, eighteen Nether Spirit Lamps, and other heroes swiftly toward one of the three locations Wuxiang Reincarnation had identified.

According to Wuxiang Reincarnation, Li Bin’s destination was a munitions factory farthest from the city hall. The map indicated that the factory had been unused for years, yet Uyada City had not abandoned the site and continued to supply it with energy. It was precisely for this reason that Li Bin had made it his first target.

Upon finding the factory, Li Bin ordered the corpse mages to unleash a volley that blasted open the main gate. Behind it lay countless obsolete machines piled high with dust.

With a sweep of his hand, Li Bin commanded, “Search.”

Naturally, Li Bin did not expect the level 8 corpse mages and Nether Spirit Lamps themselves to do the searching. The basic undead units that had followed from afar immediately began to turn the entire munitions factory upside down.

Soon, materials and blueprints were brought to Li Bin. Among them was even a flawed design for a puppet dragon, but nothing related to Carter was found.

Li Bin grew anxious—did he really have to resort to the final step? But how difficult would that be? Could they even accomplish it in their current state?

Just then, Reed suddenly spoke up: “Master, don’t give up. Carter must be nearby.”

“How do you know?” Li Bin looked up and asked.

“I was cursed and turned into this by him. I can sense his bloodline close by,” Reed replied bitterly.

Li Bin immediately issued another order: “Find him for me—even if you have to tear down this factory, you must find him.”

At his command, even the corpse mages and Nether Spirit Lamps joined the search. They conferred briefly, and the corpse mages jointly cast a wall of toxic mist, using the airflow patterns to search for any hidden doors they might have missed.

This method proved effective. Soon, Li Bin’s group located a secret door behind a massive machine. But when they excitedly opened it, they were stunned.

Behind the door was a space of less than two meters, and within it, a man, tortured nearly to death, lay on the ground.

Upon seeing Li Bin, the man spoke directly: “Kill me...”
