Chapter Fourteen: A Battle to the Death with the Graveyard Demon
For tomorrow’s release, I’m going all out tonight. There will be another chapter in a bit, and I hope everyone will keep supporting me.
Seeing that Li Bin was stalled by the strange corpses under his command, Naraku could not help but burst into proud laughter. “Li Bin, do you still not understand? You cannot defeat me.”
“I do not believe it. If arrows cannot pierce them, I refuse to believe bolts cannot either.” Li Bin was infuriated by Naraku’s tone.
Looking at the three small squads of death ballistae Li Bin had deployed, even Naraku could not help feeling uneasy. He knew very well what his own subordinates relied on to block the long arrows of the skeleton archers, and he also understood the power of Li Bin’s death ballistae.
To prevent Li Bin from shooting down his capable men, Naraku had no choice but to deploy his second trump card: skulls wrapped in rotten mud.
These skulls bounced forward swiftly toward Li Bin’s side. Though Li Bin did not think they had much offensive power, he still had the unsettling feeling that they were extremely dangerous.
When the first skull jumped in front of a skeleton soldier, before the soldier could even react, the skull detonated on its own.
Although the explosion itself was not very powerful, it released a black-green liquid that rapidly caused several skeleton soldiers splashed by it to rot away.
At once Li Bin ordered his troops to pull back a little, and stared from afar at Naraku, wanting to see what other tricks he had.
Unexpectedly, after Li Bin withdrew, the skulls did not pursue. They merely kept bouncing back and forth around the Graveyard Demon. Li Bin’s mind moved, and he pulled over a Phantom Undead Archer. “Find a way to shoot one of those skulls more than twenty meters away from the Graveyard Demon. Remember, do not kill it.”
The Phantom Undead Archer glanced at the bouncing skulls, hesitated, and said, “Please let me try.”
With that, he carefully took out three wooden arrows. After a moment’s hesitation, he snapped the arrowhead off one of them and fired at a skull.
Yet even so, the skull still exploded the instant it was struck, and several skulls beside it, splashed by the black-green liquid, actually grew a little larger.
Li Bin froze. Then he turned and said, “Triple shot. Arrow rain.”
At his command, the Phantom Undead Archers behind him swiftly formed a line, raised their bows, and loosed over a hundred long arrows.
Yet although those skulls could only hop about, they were not slow. Four or five of them actually escaped the hail of arrows. The others might explode, but immediately a new batch would sprout from within the Graveyard Demon and rapidly replenish the ranks.
Faced with such a situation, Li Bin could neither press the attack nor retreat. Just as he was hesitating over what to do, Reid suddenly said, “I can handle these things.”
Li Bin turned back in surprise and looked at Reid, who had never once taken the initiative to request battle. Reid smiled and said, “Do not look at me like that. I just saw that no matter how high those skulls jump, they only move within a ten-meter range around the edge of the Graveyard Demon, like a moat. And those weird corpses in that small squad are like turrets. Tell me, if we encountered such a troublesome thing in a siege, what would we do?”
Hearing this, Li Bin already understood Reid’s plan. He turned back and nodded to him. “I’ll draw their attention. You move fast.”
Reid gave a slight nod, retreated into his group of false bone dragons, said a few words, and then disappeared. After that, the false bone dragons, led by Blood Night, all took flight and hurled themselves at the Graveyard Demon without regard for anything.
Although Li Bin understood that Reid intended to directly kill Naraku inside the Graveyard Demon by means of an aerial strike, he had not expected such an extreme method. He hurriedly threw all the troops he had at hand forward, hoping to ease the pressure on the false bone dragons.
Soon Naraku also understood Reid’s intention. He turned at once, intending to flee into the tomb.
At that very moment, a streak of sword aura descended from the heavens and struck before Naraku. Shocked, Naraku swiftly stepped back, swinging his scythe forward; it happened to strike Reid as he darted out from the side.
Reid gave a cold snort, and the might of the dragon burst from him. At that exact moment, more than ten false bone dragons also rushed in, and all that dragon power pressed down upon Naraku at once.
Naraku still wanted to resist, but he was hit in that instant by a curse and four thick ballista bolts. Looking back, he saw that Li Bin, worried something might happen to Reid, had already forced open a path to the entrance of the Graveyard Demon’s tomb with his mixed formation of troops.
Though Naraku still wanted to fight on, it was already beyond saving. When he had fled to the Graveyard Demon, he had brought scarcely any troops with him. He had originally intended to rely on the Graveyard Demon’s defensive power to force Li Bin to retreat in the face of difficulty, never imagining that Li Bin would charge in regardless of losses.
Watching Li Bin draw ever closer, Naraku let out a long sigh and said, “Wait for me. One day, I will return for my revenge.”
Li Bin paid little attention to Naraku’s death. After all, this was only a game. Even if a player died, it would merely mean losing one level and control of all subordinate troops. Even if Naraku wanted to come back and trouble Li Bin again, no one knew how long that would take. After all, the resurrection point he had set had already fallen under Li Bin’s control. The only option left to him was random revival.
After Naraku died, the battle atop the Graveyard Demon became much simpler. Once Li Bin and the others fought their way into the entrance, they no longer suffered attacks from the strange corpses or the skulls, and soon they had seized the inner hall that controlled the Graveyard Demon.
By then, Li Bin had also learned the full situation of this Graveyard Demon. Just as they had initially guessed, it had already broken through the level limit and reached the standard of a level-four town, and it had acquired an even more resounding title: the Graveyard Demon of Decay.
The true reason the Graveyard Demon had become this way was the enormous creature locked on its third level: the thirteenth-level undead beast, the Rot Eater, also an undead variant of the free-form mud monster. This monster, made up of countless toxins and foul sludge, had the greatest trait of corroding everything around it into worthless scrap, and twenty-five percent of the time it would even destroy the possessions of its own allies along with their own gear.
This thing must have been lured here by Naraku with one of his skills, but it clearly could not adapt to his attributes, so he had no choice but to confine it within the Graveyard Demon. In doing so, he also gave the Graveyard Demon its grand title and caused it to develop those two strange kinds of troops.
